View Full Version : A question for SCAR 17 owners

Is the juice with the squeeze?

I've been considering getting one, but I really want to know is it worth it, is the recoil really that much lessened, is the accuracy that much better, and is reliability that much better.

I would really appreciate any insight, I'm deciding between a SCAR and some variety of 308 AR platform.

Thanks much.

I just got mine on Wed, and shot it yesterday.

By far the best 7.62x51 AR I've ever fired.

Same weight as my AR15, same recoil as my AR15, twice the fire power.

Much better balance than an AR10. The brake is incredible in controlling the muzzle rise. This thing is bad to the bone. I felt truly vindicated in my purchase yesterday.

The only downside is magazines right now. There should be aftermarket available polymer ones next month though, I pre-ordered 5 of them.

Tango-Down makes/sells a lot of the SCAR upgrades they provide for the military. The only actual issue that was ever found on this was the stock catch breaking in the right circumstance of forcing the stock open.... TD also has the aluminum replacement.

Crappy vert grip and optic. New optic is in the mail. Going to use the same pistol grip and AFG on the scar as my AR in the picture. They also have SCAR specific rail covers that are slim.

I realize the image quality on this video is horrid.... what do you expect from an Iphone?

However, I'm shooting it "hadji style" with the stock folded over and this is the recoil from just free floating it. I could shoot this damn thing one handed lol.

I don't own or plan to buy one.

Once upon I did think about getting one, but I took a step back away from the semi-auto .308's.

The only thing I don't like about the SCAR is it's mags being proprietary... other than that, that thing is a beast.. as Sneakerd would say "Thor's thunder" [Coffee]

Let me screw you up with another option to look at [Stooge]

Have one and love it. As stated, same recoil or felt recoil as a standard AR. Can shoot it all day long without any shoulder soreness what-so-ever. I'm planning on locking it into a sled and seeing just how accurate it really is with match grade ammo. As far as accuracy in general, just as accurate as any of my other semi-auto .308s. 300 yards at human-sized steel plates all day long...

Is it worth it? If you are into that type of thing, I'd say so.

I got my SCAR and magazines from R&S Manufacturing. Randy may still have some magazines.

The issue w/ SCAR17 is the magazine.. They are as much as HK mags and very hard to come by. Oh and they dont' even bother paint the whole thing. :)

Kind of an extreme solution to the SCAR 17 mag crisis: http://www.handldefense.com/

Molon Labe Industries is releasing the polymer mags next month. MSRP is $69.99, dealers will have them listed for $38.99-$49.99

There is a LE/Mil discount directly through MLI.

I pre-ordered 5.

I can't advertize in this area of the forum, but feel free to send me an email and ask for availability.

I've had mine for a few months now and IMO although expensive its worth every penny. Recoil is stupid light for a .308 and handles like .556. I have 13 mags now and I have got them all in the last few months, at least for me it has'nt been an issue other than again the price of the mags ($34-40). This is now my GTG bar none.

That was a sweet option ... rifle was pretty good too ...

I looked into getting the 17 but didn't like mag availability as stated above and the reciprocating charging handle. I hear the changed that on newer models though.
I've been looking at the LWRC REPR, so when the time comes, if FN change the charging handle then I'll probably go with that. If not, well I'll be getting the REPR.
