If I were to purchase my first suppressor, which caliber/weapon system should I get first? The three options I would consider would be a 9mm handgun, a rifle in 5.56, or a rifle in .308. I'm thinking the .308 because it is the loudest of the bunch. But the 5.56 probably gets shot the most. Not 100% sure why I would consider a can for a 9mm handgun other than the "cool factor".

Thoughts?

Thanks.

.308 with the same mounting system on your 5.56. 2 birds, one stamp.

I would think there would be a difference between a .30 caliber and .22 caliber suppressor. Am I wrong?

I got a .308 as my first, because in addition to my .308's, I can also use it on my .260 (when it arrives) and on 5.56. It's a quick-detach and I just had to mount QD flash-hiders on the rifles I want to use with it.

edit: I guess I type slow. Didn't see Bourbon's post, but yeah, what he said.

the .30 cal suppressor on a 5.56 rifle won't be quite as effective, but will still suppress the blast decently. You can search youtube and see plenty of videos of people demonstrating.

I got the AAC 762 sdn6 for that multi-cal purpose.

It's going on both my "long leg"/.308 and the "lil b*tch"/Krinkov 5.45x39

killing 2 birds with one stone.... and I'm thinking of building another long range rifle in .243 which is another plus... still deciding though...

Depends on what your expectations are. If you want the quietest experience possible go with the 9mm (or better yet a 22lr). Rifle cans wsimply aren't as quiet because you won't be shooting subsonic ammo.

I understand the whole subsonic thing. I've seen several .308 rifles being shot with suppressors and while they aren't the quietest things they are way quieter than a non-suppressed rifle.

.308 so you can build a blackout and run sub sonic thru it

seems like a no-brainer to me, get the .30 cal. can and then use it on multiple rifles.

Ha. I hadn't seen your reply but decided the other day to re-barrel my AR to .300 Blackout. So now a 30 cal can makes perfect sense to me.

Thanks.
