I went out for a coffee this morning and ended up with a new blank canvas. A stripped lower. My first build started with a complete lower so for my second one I will get to do it all. I have lots to learn for sure. Now to decide what to build up. I'm thinking 300 blackout upper? Not sure ... What would you suggest for a new guy. 16191
Keep it simple is what I say. I just built my first AR using a Spike's lower,Spike's parts kit and built PSA upper. It all went together like a charm.
I would just go with a standard 5.56 with a 16" upper but that is me, I tend to stay away from really odd or proprietary stuff.

I'm purely amazed you found a lower....figured Obama had them all destroyed, banned, and made illegal by now...smelted them all down and sold the metal to china to fund there economy.

I would like to get some pointers from you as i have lots to learn and I'm just starting to research the 300 Blackout. I already have a 5.56 rifle so need something else i think before i get a second 5.56
The only things different between 300blk and 5.56 are the barrel and muzzle device. Some of the "less expensive" barrels have issues. I have a CMMG barrel and it has run perfect from the start. Just built one with a Daniel Defense barrel, Both are 16" with Carbine gas systems. You have 2 choices in 300blk gas systems Carbine or Pistol length. I obviously prefer the Carbine length in the 16" barrel. Also stick with standard buffer and spring. PM me if you have any detailed questions.

I would stay with the 5.56 platform for a first and learn the quirks of the platform. The 300 has been pretty reliable but if you run into issues the commonality of the 5.56 may make trouble shooting easier.
I picked up a Spikes upper and lower, CMMG LPK but subbed a Daniels Defense trigger and hammer(they clean up nicely).
Fixed stock and a JSE 1/9 16" M4 barrel for now but I will possibly go with an Ace and find a nice 20" barrel eventually.
Just need to find a BCG and light her up!
