So I ordered a pizza from pizza hut. Sat by the door for an hour waiting for it... No one came or went. After an hour of waiting and 20 mins over their "estimated delivery time" I called them asking if there was a problem? They said I didn't answer the door and the driver called my phone. I literally was sitting 20 ft away from the door so if someone knocked I'd know, and I had no missed calls on my phone. Anyways. They ask me "What I want to do?" Obviously I'm hungry so I say I want my pizza. They re send the driver and say it will be 10 mins. 25 mins later he finally arrives and claims he knocked and no one came. Knowing what these kids make and I paid my CC I say do you have a receipt for me to sign? He says no this delivery is free. I say ok. Well I have a 10 do you have change for that? Normally I tip 3 bucks. Considering I live 3 miles away. The little fucker has the audacity to say he only has a 5 which means he gets a 5 dollar top. I want to bitch and complain to someone in the hopes for something free. But this is just a shitty location in my mind? Do I complain to corporate or the store owner?

If you were 100% certain the little shit stain never knocked on your door the first time I wouldn't have tipped him.

Also, maybe consider a different pizza place next time?

Yes I realize I'm extremely lazy considering the pizza hut is 3 miles away.

I am 100% I have cameras and wasn't far from the door. No one came to the door.

They don't even make minimum wage... Better then giving a fake homeless person money. But still angry.

Also cheaper then me not tipping him and him keying my 50,000 car for a 5 dollar tip.

They're a huge business.... Locations all over the world. Most of which have no problems delivering. The business wouldn't have gotten as large as it is without discipline and drive.

well if you don't want to tip him 5 then tell him you would have tipped him if he brought change. See ya...

And people allowing them to get away with the shit they pulled on you. PH is the worst , calling their crap pizza is an embarrassment. As long as you're happy. The only reason they are big , is due to them dumping a sub par item for pennies on the dollar. Like Olive Garden if it was the only eatery within 100 miles i would not patronize them, ever.
You seem like a sensible guy based on your post, how did you not call after 40 minutes?

Man, I delivered for Pizza Hut for 3 years going through college. It paid for a LOT of college and was one of the highest paying jobs for college kids when I went to school.

But two things seem weird here.

First: I would pound on a door or ring a doorbell several times before just leaving the house, apartment, whatever. I wanted to deliver that damn pizza and get paid, dammit! Cell phones didn't exist WAAAAAAY back then, so calling wasn't an option.

Second: I made damn sure I had plenty of singles and 5's for change for situations just like yours. Makes me wonder if this kid was trying out a little scam. If you said "Oh, you have nothing but 5's...damn...I'll have to get you next time bro, sorry" I wonder if he would have magically found some singles in his pocket. Maybe he found out that most folks will just say "screw it" and give him a five if he claims to have nothing smaller.

Honestly, I wouldn't get all worked up about this. If you ordered from here before and they delivered fine, this might have just been an isolated incident. Shit does happen sometimes. But if it happens again, find another pizza joint that delivers.

Perhaps because he had that car, he can't afford to drive anywhere.. Ya know insurance and all that....

Considering the dilemma you're faced with. Maybe order from a different restaurant next time or suck it up and give the pizza guy an extra $2 dollars.[Beer]

so you got a free pizza, albeit late, and you don't want to give the driver a tip. maybe he got lost the first time, maybe his boss forgot about your pizza and it wasn't delivered cause the order taker screwed up. maybe they wrote down the wrong address the first time and he knocked on your neighbors door, it is totally conceivable that the person on the phone was the one who lied to you not the driver.

I am quite sure your next pizza will have spit in it if the one from last night did not. I have delivered for a living when i was in college, it is not always the drivers fault.

The driver doesn't get paid less than minimum wage, or at least at Papa John's they don't. Well, while they are "on the road" they do, but while they are standing in the store they don't.
It is true that it might not have been the driver's fault. It was more than likely the stores fault, and what ever idiot you talked to tried to cover and throw the driver under the bus. The most suspicious part of the story is that the driver only had $5. Generally each driver gets a "bank," of 2 $5 bills and 10 $1 bills. As they go on through the night, they have more and less change, but I usually tried to keep at least $20 in change all night. Delivery drivers get a lot of shit from stuff that isn't their fault. If he really only had $5, then tough cookies for him. Even though I spent years delivering pizza on and off, and liked getting tipped as much as the next guy, I wouldn't have expected a tip for screwed up order.

Conclusion: If you are upset at the store, punishing the driver is the wrong way to go. Just stop giving that store your money. Personally, I don't order pizza at all any more because EVERYONE has bullshit "delivery fees" that DO NOT go to the driver. People think they do, then stiff the driver, or yell at them over the fees. Also, 3 miles away is REALLY far for a delivery. Actually it is stupid far. You are probably on the very edge of their delivery range and the drivers likely hate going on singles that far from the store.

It helps keep the idiots away from me when driving, they see the plates and the dents and back the f up :D

Given the distance and such. I've ordered from this place plenty of times and paid the ridiculous $3 delivery charge that doesn't even goto the driver. Anyways, I complained online and they felt the need to call and email to follow up. Apparently this franchise has the "change" problem often and they're investigating. Got my meal comped, got a free pizza, and granted I've ordered there pretty often it seems to be a few that are causing the problem. I'm happy. Will probably order again... But I will pick it up.

I live in a pretty rural area. I ordered online. I have an account on pizzahuts website and order often (no other delivery driver has ever messed up my address), the houses aren't exactly "small" so I doubt he missed the addresses / house. Anyways... Corporate made it right and it's done with. Given your thought that my pizza would have spit in it next time I ordered. I've simply decided I probably won't get delivery from there anymore. If someone spits in your pizza AFTER you tipped them and they were late and late again? Well... Shit.

I have NO PROBLEM paying for good service. When my water glass stays full and my plate tastes good I tip over 20% plain and simple... Rule 1 You don't piss off the people who handle your food. A tiny crack blemish in my paint would cost way more then 3 bucks which makes your whole post crazy. I shouldn't have to GIVE to the less fortunate because I ordered a pizza.

You have put too much time into this. Time to move on.. how was the free pizza? [Beer]

It was cold and had olives on it. So I threw it in the trash. Olives are gross. I'm a carnivore.

I'm with Chunky on this one. Of all the things to get wrapped around the axle about, this is simply not one of them. Order from Dominos next time, and move on with life.

I've never had pizza hut after a neighborhood kid told me what goes on there during the late shift. Spit would be the least disgusting thing to worry about.

Yeah........well, I never did anything nasty myself, but I have heard many nasty stories. Don't F with folks that handle your food to be safe. F with them and you might be more at risk if she/he spits, vomits, sneezes, shits, etc. into your meal....on accident of course. LOL
