My wife has been telling me for the last week she wanted to watch it. I told her it would be a bad idea, she's gets spooked easy as it is. Those were some bad situations to say the least. Needless to say she kept both of us up until about 1:30am...

The audio of the lady home alone with someone breaking in needs to be played at every gun banning session.
"HELP!!! They are in my house! HELP!!!"
911 dispatcher...."police are on their way."
HELP!!!!

How about the part where the dispatcher who know the guy is still in her apartment tells her to put the gun down and set it away from her?!? I told my wife that she puts down the gun as soon as the police who on are scene tell her to, not a second sooner...

A dispatcher REALLY told somebody to put their gun down during a HOME INVASION!? What freakin' retards. Seriously, how stupid can you be? The phone only comes out for me AFTER I am armed and hunkered down in a defensible position. "I live at 1234 Street Dr. My home is being broken into." Only after that, If I have time, I will tell them where in the home I am and what I am wearing, so the cops can ID me as the homeowner when they make entry.

Gotta look at location.... That was in California.
Look at the last one. The deputy more or less said, "shoot that bastard".
Location location location....
Let me ask this. Is it the dispatchers fault that the woman in the closet didn't have her gun? If someone told you to put yours down during a home invasion would you do it?
i think there is some blame but the woman that put her gun down was an idiot. She had the advantage and by following that instruction she gave the attacker the advantage.

Well, that's true... But we gotta look at it a little deeper.
I'm going to assume she was younger, female, and in California. Given that set of variables I'm willing to guess that almost always that person would listen to what the police/dispatcher says. Even more so when scared out of their minds.
I'm also assuming she didn't have much in the way of training. I know none of us would put the gun down. But that's us.
This also makes me curious as to her own comfort level with the weapon. Again, look at the difference between the San Jose incident and the last one. Comfort level and location. Also, differing social standards for what's acceptable.
I don't want to start an Open Carry debate, but, the "social standards" thing comes into play there as well. While it might be totally acceptable in a rural area to open carry, in a heavily populated city it might be looked upon differently.
And for what it's worth, I don't agree with the dispatcher telling her to put the gun down. I think that was the wrong move.
I think your right JM. I also found it amusing that the woman in OK that killed the dude seemed like an old ranch woman. Her son said that all they had done was give her the nickel tour of the shotgun. I think it plays to her background that she had the werwathol to use it. She also sounded super cool throughout given the circumstances. She knew she didn't have to worry because she had a gun in hand.

Exactly. I was thinking, "She's gonna blast this dude..." the whole time.
I also noticed her say, "I don't want to kill him. But if I have to..."
I think that says a lot to the mindset you have to be in. No one WANTS to kill someone. But if the situation is "You or Them", it should always be them.

To be fair to the dispatcher, the woman in the first call is totally panicky. I wouldn't be surprised if she shot at the first thing she saw, which could be one of the cops responding to her call. The dispatcher didn't tell her to put the gun down until the cops were well on the way and then on the scene. Most of us here wouldn't put the gun down until we knew cops were on scene but most of here also wouldn't be crying, "please please hurry, I don't want to use this." Officers are in the area and looking for her apartment when the dispatcher tells her to put the gun down at minute 6.
Remember, some people who buy guns aren't familiar with them and don't take the time to get familiar with them. They buy them almost like magic talismans -- and frankly, people like that scare me when they handle firearms because you just don't know what they're going to do. In a case like that, she'd have been better off with a baseball bat than a handgun. She can still stay outside the bad guy's reach with the baseball bat and cops on the scene will know what they're dealing with.
I wish we had a like button or something, I agree 100% with Aloha

Very true. I had thought about that as well but you said it better than I could have.
Started watching it... Couldn't watch past the first dispatcher. Show sucks.

C'mon man! Really? I say he added his two cents. If you don't like it, leave it. He's entitled to his opinion of the show as much as you are.

Oh... You mean that opinion I gave of his opinion...? He's allowed to voice his opinion of the show but I'm not allowed to voice my opinion of his opinion? Sounds like a double standard to me.
I'll be in contact with the ACLU about you and your double standards.
I just wish people would express WHY they dislike something. I'm actually curious as to what he didn't like about it.

OK Reverend. Let us know how THAT works out for you....

They why didn't you say that instead of ridiculing him? BUT, since you asked....
I saw the ads for the show and it took me two seconds to decide it wasn't for me. There's just sooooo much overstimulation on TV anymore and to what end? "Reality TV" couldn't be any less real. It's just become increasingly trashy, (you know, "Honey Boo Boo" and the like.....Really??? Is this the best they can come up with?) incredibly oversensationalization and unoriginal. (I know, THAT's a real news flash.) Take the new show "Amish Mafia." Who comes up with this shit?
As for the 9-1-1 show, I've got enough reality in my own life....I don't need to re-live someone else's to get my fix, particularly the very raw, very real and very ugly things. Not knocking anyone who does watch it, it's just not for me. I'd rather watch "Gold Rush" cause THAT's reality man!

Now THAT was a discussion post. Good Fucking show, my friend. If I was there I'd shake your hand. I agree 100% with your thoughts.
And, I actually enjoy Gold Rush. It's a fun show.

And assuming that part wasn't fake it was as a suspicious persons call not a break in in progress of occupied dwelling.
Then at the end he's only charged with burglary for 6 yrs prison. (So in the end probably like 2?) What happened to Attempted rape, etc.
