An unnamed Kansas City Chiefs player has committed suicide at the team facility and authorities are on the scene, the police confirmed to ESPN on Saturday morning.

Local reports say police are operating with the belief the player fatally shot his girlfriend at a house before driving to Arrowhead Stadium and killing himself at around 8 a.m local time. The Associated Press reported the player's age to be 25.

"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning," the Chiefs said in a statement. "We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."

There were no other injuries at the team facility, police said.

The Chiefs (1-10) were preparing to host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The NFL has told the Panthers to travel as planned to Kansas City on Saturday, the Charlotte Observer has reported, citing interim general manager Brandon Beane.

Not good. Thoughts and prayers for his family and friends.

That is sad if they did, a baby with no parents.

That's why I've stopped watching football. It destroys people for our amusement.

I feel no sympathy for that guy taking the "easy way out" especially since he was willing to kill his girlfriend prior to himself. Terrible for her.

Definitely a messed up situation. I just can't imagine abandoning my child like that.

As a person with a parent that did the same, fuck this guy. You not only left that kid without you which is hard enough but you took BOTH of his parents.

Didn't he do this in front of his coaches?

He killed his girlfriend in front of her mother and then offed himself in front of his head coach and the GM.

Murder suicides should skip the first part and just jump straight to the suicide part.

According to the news reports he killed his woman before doing it. Coward IMHO. People die every day... Everyone says they'll send thoughts and prayers towards the family... But guess what? They're dead. They're not coming back.

I think most people are praying for the families. Some parents just lost their son, and worse some parents just lost their daughter to a murder. Now there is some baby who doesn't have any parents who hopefully has some family otherwise that could just end up being another person lost in the system.

I have no way of saying this without sounding like an asshole. Praying for what? The person is dead. The baby will be passed down the custodial chain and goto the next fit parents in the family. The good thing about being a baby is that you don't remember being a baby. That baby will be fine. Eventually it will learn the tragic circumstances that their parents came upon... But that's 18 years away. Or 8? Depending on the internet and their curiosity?

Realist! I like it. I love how the NFL tries to protect its players with retarded rules on the field yet there is very little that they do off the field to help... Maybe im blind and they do actually do things off the field but damn how many players have offed themselves lately?

It would appear Jovan Belcher is a murderous coward, only good thing I can say is it also appears he saved the tax payer the cost of prosecuting him.

The title should read 'Selfish man murders young mother in cold blood and then self'

The rest is just sensationalism you would expect from the media.
