I know what kind of rifles I like, what kind I can afford, and what the "best" are. My question however is:

I have a barrett REC7 5.56 and I love it. I have only put about 700 rounds through it but I want to start shooting more. I also dont want to only have 1 rifle that I use for classes, SHTF, training, maybe 3 gun and plinking who knows what else. Id like to keep one with a relatively low round count and then a trainer... Finally my question.

Should I get another REC7 or get something else?

When I playh hockey I take two sticks... Just in case one breaks... During games, I only play with one. On Tuesday, I play a drop in game that's very informal... During that game I try to swap sticks each shift... One shift with my RS, one with my S19 and so on.

Since each stick is different and has different performance, my performance is never the same from one to the other. Take that for what it's worth.

IMHO, the Rec7, being a piston driven gun, is not, nor can it be made, optimum for 3Gun. The recoil impulse just slows you down too much for high speed competition. It is probably fine for the other stuff.

18" stainless barrels with rifle length gas, match triggers and a good 1-4 optic lay the foundation for a good 3Gun AR-15. If you build one, you will likely use it for plinking, practice and 3Gun and may eventually leave the Rec7 for the HD/Zombie/backup role.

First ask yourself, what is the primary purpose for the REC 7 rifle you already have? If this is your SHTF rifle. buy something else that will cover other needs like training, competition, etc. Now if the REC 7 does cover your other needs then buy another one.

I'll do ya one better. I use a Camilliari curve. The old Forsberg. The only thing different about it and Iginla is a HALF degree of lie.... I can't shoot with an Iginla curve for shit. Every shot is 5-10 feet over the net.

^^^ This. Why settle for just one?? Like the potato chip commercial. You can't eat just one. .223 /5.56, .204 Ruger, 6.5 Grendel, 6.8 SPC, WSSM's, 7.62 x 39, 5.7 x 28, 9mm, 40 S&W, 45 ACP.

Help with the costs by just buying another upper. If you want a competition upper, then take Mark's advice. I have an older thread about which precision 5.56/.223 upper to get. It'll be tough to get one this week due to the election gun craze, but keep your eyes peeled.

3 gun is the last thing on my list. I am more interested in Classes and training. I want to be able to put 2000 rounds through it in 3 days and not have to worry about anything. I do however want to start getting into 3 gun, and if I enjoy it ill buy a dedicated 3 gun rifle.
