This is a fantastic essay by Mark Alexander of "The Patriot Post". It should be required reading in schools. Do yourself a favor...take 5 minutes to read it:

The below statistic really made me smile:

According to a worldwide survey conducted the year before Obama's election, though the United States had only 5% of the world's population, Americans owned 50% of the world's guns.

And 30% actually have taken classes, training and know their firearm.

Even conservative estimates put the number of American gun owners at about 90,000,000.

90,000,000 x .30 = 27,000,000

Assuming your 30% number is correct them's pretty good odds.

Imagine that 27,000,000 getting fed up enough to understand the true meaning of all those arms in the hands of private citizens.

I certainly hope these comments aren't advocating for armed/violent insurrection. No only are those types of comments strictly prohibited on this site ,right or wrong, they are against the law.

I know it sounds silly, but I first got my own gun (shotgun to start) when I was 18 yo (NY...need I say more?). At 42, I can't even imagine NOT having one now. I still have that shotgun and love it.

Man, if some fictitious government of the future started confiscating US citizens guns, can you imagine being the guy knocking on doors?

No, you can't, because you'd have SERIOUS problems. And that's exactly the way it's supposed to be. Thank you very much and have a nice day.

Of course not. The comments were meant in the spirit of the the article linked in the OP. There is nothing illegal about discussing the merits of private firearms ownership as it relates to the Founding Father's intent of the 2nd Amendment. Discussion does not equal action.

If that were the case I sure as hell wouldn't discuss it on an internet forum.

Agreed, I just wanted to throw it out there to make sure the newb's knew our policy.

Certainly was not advocating that. More as in if all gun owners banded together to affect political change.

Excellent post. Thank you for sharing it. It is sad that this part of our history is no longer taught in our schools.
Which means it is up to us Patriots to teach our children.
