I'm the first one on their ass when they do something wrong but maybe I should thank them for their sevice the way I do our sevice men and women.
Thanks to all the Colorado LEO's that keep us safe and you guys be careful out there.

Glad the cops are shooting back and not turning into LODD's.
Ya, it scares the shit out of me, every morning the wife goes to work. Sheriffs Deputy.

Since 9/11... More cops have died in the US than Military Servicemen in the middle east.
EDIT: replace "middle east" with Afghanistan. My bad.
Granted, that's under all circumstances. But, they're all "line of duty" deaths. Traffic accidents leading the way.
With that said........ When you see a cop pulled over on the side of the road with his lights on.... MOVE THE FUCK OVER AND SLOW DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!
That's all. Have a great day. :)

same with fire trucks, ambos, and CDOT vehicles. I think most people don't slow down because the don't know what it's like to stand next to traffic passing at 80MPH. It's not fun, especially under inclement weather.

You are 100% correct. I had to look to look it up again.

How many LEOs are there in the US?
I highly suspect that its more a case that there are more Law Enforcement Officers than there are military folks in Afghanistan at any one time.
If there's ten million people and 1 in a million of them have something bad tothem compared to 10 people who have 1 in 10 have something bad happen to them, the ten million aren't at higher risk.
Cops are not in the top 10 most dangerous job in the US.

1. Logger
2. Pilot
3. Fisher
4. Iron/Steel Worker
5. Garbage Collector
6. Farmer/Rancher
7. Roofer
8. Electrical power installer/repairer
9. Sales, Delivery & Other truck driver
10. Taxi Driver/Chauffer
These were compiled by fatality rate per 100,000 employed in that activity.
The raw data for a more recent year is here: http://money.cnn.com/gallery/pf/2012/09/20/most-dangerous-jobs/index.html. The top-10 here is a little different.
I don't mean to minimize the tragedy of an officer being killed, by crook or accident. It is always horrible when good men go before their time. But it isn't productive to exaggerate how dangerous their job is, either.

KUSA - An officer was shot during an altercation in Mountain View on Sunday evening. According to Wheat Ridge Police, two police officers - one from the Mountain View Police Department and one from the Lakeside Police Department - responded to the Jugz Bar in the 4300 block of Sheridan Boulevard.
Police heard there was an auto-theft suspect in the bar.
The officers tried to take the suspect into custody, but the suspect drew a gun and shot the Mountain View officer in the leg. The suspect then turned the gun on himself and fired. Both the suspect and the officer were taken to Denver Health.
The officer was treated and released from his non-life-threatening injury. The suspect was identified as Marcus Ray Martinez, 27, of Thornton. He is in serious condition. He may face weapons charges, assault on a peace officer and attempted murder.

That's gotta be about 99.9% small single engine Cessnas driving that #2 statistic. Unless we're talking historical Zero pilots or something.

Plus it's the damn law!
Pisses me off every time I see it.

It's a ticket that cops should write more often. Only way people will change their ways. People don't give a rat's ass about the cop's safety, but they may care about their wallet taking a hit.

100% agree but unfortunately they are usually pre-occupied when it happens. I have seen them do it a couple times and its gratifying.

Yeah what I've seen is one cop will be on a stop and then another cop will come and hang out up in front of the car that is stopped. That cop then watches the cars coming down the highway. Then when some asshole burns the back of the cops trousers off that is talking to the stopped car the one up ahead can jam them up. I agree it's gratifying!

Funny, it appears that what source you use will dictate what's on the list... [facepalm]
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/the-10-most-dangerous-jobs.html
Good news is that Stuntman made this list as of June 2012 just above Cops and Sheriffs.
And why is only fatality looked at for "danger"? That article says that Police have the second highest serious injury rate. I would consider that more "dangerous" because the likeliness of a cop or military soldier being involved in a situation that could take their life is WAY higher than that of a roofer. Just because the numbers worked out where the number of roofers who fell off of a roof in comparison to the number in the industry does not make it a more dangerous job day to day than that of a cop, firefighter, or soldier. That "study" is bullshit statistical manipulation, plain n' simple. That is what allows people to say, "See, being a soldier isn't even that dangerous. Loggers have it tougher than you." Where as a soldier in combat barely escaped with his life today but that statistic is not represented in these articles.
I usually try to go out of my way to thank LEOs for their service when they're not actively engaged in something. I know I've done it a few times at concerts at The Fillmore- granted I was a bit intoxicated, but it doesn't make it any less genuine because I don't allow myself to get completely wasted anymore. Here is no different, as an inactive service member, the work that LEOs, Fire and medics do is much appreciated, even if not everyone gives thanks, believe me, when they need help, they're mighty glad to have our service members arrive. So thanks to all past, present, and future PD/Fire/Medical members who protect us at home while the troops are protecting us abroad. [Beer]
I appreciate the dangers associated with the job, and grateful for what our LEO's do on a daily basis. THANK YOU!

I know I don't thank cops enough for what they do. Yes, they deal with the public on their very worst days. Not only is there significant physical danger, but the negative situations has to wear on them. Keep up your spirits, guys, and thanks sincerely. Please stay safe.

The suspect that killed an officer when responding to a suicidal subject call has been released. I thought I would share. Didn't see anything or if anyone knew. This is pretty sad.

Most pilots know that being a Bush Pilot is where the danger comes into the occupation. Most commercial aviation is complex but very safe.
Not all LE work is dangerous and most LE cycle through various assignments throughout their career. Some things are just more dangerous than others.
Where is Underwater Welding on that list???? When I was a kid, that was always the bad ass, you gonna die for sure job. [ROFL2]
Its the little things that will get you regardless of your job.
Life is fatal.
Be safe.
Not trying to minimize the work of the LEO's, but lets not compare deploying to a combat zone to being a police officer.

I think that would totally depend on the city. DC after the sun goes down...fuck that place.

That's exactly what you were trying to do. That's like saying, "No offense but you are an asshole and a low life piece of shit." I said no offense though! I agree that deploying into a combat outweighs a lot of what Cops do but critical incidents such as Columbine and others that cops have dealt with have been every bit as serious as what deployed soldiers are doing. You are welcome to your viewpoint but don't try to water it down. Clearly you feel that what soldiers do is much more dangerous than what cops do.

I wasn't equating it- if you are commenting on my post- I was saying, it's a selfless, thankless, service, similar to .mil. I don't think their job is nearly as rough as spending 12 mos (er 6-9 for you devil dogs [Coffee]) downrange, hell, they get to go home at night. I was just making the comparison that both jobs are protecting America in their own way. Both are service to something bigger than just yourself, that's the comparison I was making.
DC in the dark is a combat zone.
THIS. Man I feel for those cops out there. Tough gig!
