View Full Version : Wait Time (Adams Co.)?
Anyone know how long it takes Adam's County to process a permit? I'm more or less just curious.
ETA: It takes 60 days for those wondering.
Thanks

I got mine in April of 05 from Adams County. I don't recall what the limit is they have to complete the background check but it was two weeks before that. I actually called them to find out the status and they told me I could come in a pick it up. Results may vary. Very nice people there.
If you served in the millitary be sure to take in you DD-214 REGARDLESS if your using for proof of training or not. They will want to see it.
Best of luck!
I went in today, and one of the first things they asked is if i was former military, so seems as though they do want the DD-214. Since i'm not military, not sure what they would have said if i didn't had it.
I got there right on the stroke of 9am to be the first one there, and i guess they open at 8am, and i was third in line. Took the first dude about 30 minutes, the second guy 20 and myself about the same. She said they take about 60-90 days, but they're usually around the 60 day mark, and to call in anytime i want for a status.
My CCW instructor is from the Springs and he said their Sheriff is pro gun, and issues within about 2 weeks (i'm sure that'll go up with the recent shooting).
Guess i'll be carrying around March of next year.

I'm considering my CCW from Adams Co, but hesitating till I gather the details concerning the criminal database that we get entered into.
Anyhow, I have heard the reason for the Dd-214 is to speed up the process.
And I'll take a gander and say that it shows honorable or dis-honorable discharge. The latter which may dis-qualify you for a CCW.
The Sheriff's Office told me 60-90 days.
My .02 cents

Mine took one month. Just got it a couple of days ago.
I think the DD214 check is for type of discharge.

A month? Nice.
I actually called them today, i applied 2.5 weeks ago and they hadn't cashed my check, so i just wanted to know if they held that until i picked up or what. She said they normally cash them the Friday of your application, but with the holidays they hadn't gotten around to it (what, they just took 2 weeks off or something?). Anyhow, she reminded me once again it'll be 60-90 days, so i'm not counting on that month time.

Sucka, I forgot to mention that I got mine in Bent County - not a lot of applicants here, I don't think.

lol.....you got me all excited there for a second. When i applied, there was 4 other people ahead of me, and i showed up right at 9am on Tuesday, one of 2 days they accept a week. I don't know how many applicants they get, but with 4 in just an hour span, i'm gonna bet a good number. I'm not really in any "hurry" but it would be nice to just get it. As good as the laws are here in CO regarding carry, the fees and wait time are pretty ridiculous for some of us.

Ha - sorry Sucka, I haven't been living in Colorado very long - only since end of August. I called the sheriff, and he said oh, yeah, it's here... come on down and we'll get it done. He's actually a nice guy. When I got there I had to wait for the deputy to take everything out of a box and set it up - LOL.
I know the wait is - uncomfortable, to say the least. But it's worth it
And Karl, acronyms are useful only if the person you're trying to insult knows what they mean - see if you can figure this one out: GFY

Hmm. ok, the picture above is a S&W 649, .357 mag Stainless Steel - if it's not a hand cannon, it'll have to do. With the humpback design, it ain't real pretty, but it gets the job done. For concealed carry, the shrouded hammer was the deciding factor, and I carry it everywhere I go.[Neene1]

HA, got you beat by one month! I've only lived here since July, so when i read your location, it didn't mean anything to me. Unless it's within a 5 mile radius of my home, or on the way to work i'm still pretty lost here....lol. I had to ask someone here what county we lived in because i had no clue.
Yeah, i know the wait will be worth it. I came from CA, so i've been waiting plenty long now. The process has been easy so far, but not cheap. $152.50 in fees, and another $75 for the class, certainly can think of other uses for that money, but i'm willing to pay to protect my life. Applied 3 weeks ago, so i got another what, 6 weeks to go [Bang]

I came here from (the nanny state of) NJ, where I actually bought a recurve bow for home defense! But the only burglar I had to deal with was a raccoon, who, honest-to-God, climbed three flights up the fire escape, split open the window screen, climbed in, and was eating out of my cat's bowl. I woke up, heard a noise, grabbed my bow, and my cat and I tip-toed into the kitchen to face a huge raccoon, who was like, "What? You got a problem?" He wasn't in a hurry to leave, either. I called animal control, who never showed. Finally, he left out the same window, grumbling in raccoon-ese - me, standing there with my bow, knowing I could never have shot him - he was a beautiful animal.
In NJ guns are EVIL, which means only evil people get to carry: cops, politicians, and oh yeah, bg's. Gov Corzine is a card-carrying, Bilderberger globalist. I am happy to say, I am not from NJ. I am from Mississippi (born in New Orleans), Ole Miss Rebel alumnus, so liberty in the Constitutional sense of the word is key to my psyche. Come read my blog No Apology. (http://www.americaholds.blogspot.com/) You'll see what I mean.
It's GREAT to be living in Colorado, in the wide-open space of SE CO. I sometimes get in my truck and just drive and drive, out onto the high plains, on some county road, like CR DD 20, park, get out and just laugh mesel' silly. Life is good, especially now that I can carry and feel I can protect myself and the people in my life now.
This summer my sister, who is a retired county judge in Florida, dropped by on her annual pilgrimage to the great Western States, handed me a Rem 870 and said, "I don't need this anymore - you might need it" - (She still carries a S&W snubbie). It got me to thinking I should really get a handgun, too. So I read up on Colorado gun laws, and went to La Junta and bought my S&W, joined the rifle range, took the NRA course on home defense, applied for my ccw, and put a lot of .357 rounds through the 649. I only practice shooting at center mass at 7-20 feet. I also practice in low light, inside, outside. I had never fired a handgun before, but after firing about 1000 rounds, feel the snubbie is my friend now.
It had been 50 years since I had fired a weapon, an M1 Garand at Ft Jackson, SC, where I qualified "expert" on the weapon. My platoon
Sargent, a WW11 vet (fought at Normandy), took us out at night, no moon and taught us to take the weapon apart, put it back together, over-and-over, me sitting in the frigging sand, cursing him. But I learned to love that rifle. I was 16 at the time.
Now I love my 649, and plan to get a S&W 620-4 in. barrel, so the bullet can collect all the energy from the slow-burning magnum powder load ...
Well, everybody's got a story. I feel like I've made it home, here in Bent County, Colorado. Glad to find like-minded people on this forum.
Good luck, Sucka.

With retirements and track records to overcome, let's all make sure to vote this year and keep it a free state!

Thanks Karl - Yeah, it feels good to be in Colorado - I want to get further west in CO this summer, check out the mountains.
I imagine the .38's made that mountain lion mad - oh, he'll go down, eventually. Cats are tough.
The 649 is heavier than a lot of people want to lug around, but I'm happy with it for concealed carry. Be good to have a real sidearm, though - in a 4 in. barrel, like a 620. Rifle first, though. Maybe a Marlin 1894 or 1895.
I'm submitting my stuff on tuesday as long as my training cert. shows up tomorrow!
I was told between 45-60 days, but it could take up to 90

I got mine ON day 60. So did the other fella picking up when i did. So you have exactly 60 days to wait [Beer]
I even got the email on like day 58 which was a Friday, and it specifically in BOLD and CAPITAL letters said not to call until Monday lol. Worth the wait though, don't leave home without it.
I can't wait to get it! I have been trying to do the class for several months, but never had the time with the person who I was going to go through, so then I just decided I need to get it done and asked on ARFcom and jim came to my rescue and we had it done it about a week after I put out the request! Lots of fun!

I got mine in Adams in 07. Took just under 90 days.
All in all, the Adams County Sheriffs office was very helpful and professional.
