So was tooling around Cheaper Than Dirt looking for bulk ammo in 5.56/.223 and lo and behold this just about made my heart stop:

Last election CTD was one of the first to take advantage of the panic buying. I personally won't buy anything from them.

So where is a good, recommended place to purchase bulk 5.56 on the cheap? I found that Bass Pro has those 420 round 5.56 green tip XM855 cans for around $185. Same thing at 5280 Armory is around $205. CTD has it for $174... But I'd like to buy 1,000 rounds, but 5280 is too expensive, BPS doesn't carry that large of count, and now it looks like CTD is sold out for now...

my two go-to choices online are SGAmmo and ammoman. both generally beat CTD by a mile. third source are the group buys here.

Roll your own, this is pretty much a non-issue to most reloaders.

If you don't have the gear, but bought the components, I'll be more than happy to show you the ropes and let you use my equipment. As a matter of fact, I have seen alot of threads were Forum members have made the same offer to other members.

I just got an email from Natchez with 55gr going for $400/1000. I don't believe CTD either.

Sportsman's Warehouse was stocked up last weekend. Good $$$ also.

I like freedom munitions, personally. I can usually get stuff shipped to my door for just a bit more than the group buys (saves me a drive up north).

This. approx an easy 30-40% savings once you get going, if not more. Down side is more shooting, just to enjoy reloading. Winter's coming, bad enough the spouse is finding spent primers and some loaded rounds now.

I also go with freedom munitions, too--there is absolutely nothing wrong with this ammo. in fact, i probably buy more freedommunitions that anything else
