Let me preface by saying I do not like ankle/shoulder and all the other weird kinds. Hence knowing nothing about them I'm interested in knowing if there are reasonably priced and functional ankle holsters that would fit a shield. (For CCW under certain conditions.) So probably no $80 leather affairs. Wasn't sure if there was something maybe a little step up from uncle mikes that works.

Remora (http://remoraholsters.com/Remora_Ankle_Holster.html) has decent ankle holsters under $50...

If you're going the budget route, Galco Ankle Glove is definitely the way to go. Don't go cheaper.

However, a pricey molded leather ankle holster will retain the pistol without Velcro, snaps, or pull-thru elastic, which is A Good Thing. You can always sell it later and recoup your cost if it doesn't work for you. Alessi, Kramer, and Ken Null top the list. Alessi tends to have a multi-month backlog, Null has never taken more than a week in my experience.

I have an Uncle Mike's holster for my LCP that I got off of Amazon for like $35 shipped if I remember correctly. I know the Shield is a bit bigger than the LCP, but it does fine for occasional use with my small pistol. Even a trained eye will miss the holster under a pair of jeans or slacks. Also has an optional calf strap which helps keep things from shifting too much.
