View Full Version : 2013 Ruger Rimfire Challenge
On 26-27 April 2013, Pikes Peak Practical Shooters and the Pueblo West Sportsmans Assn will host the Rocky Mountain Regional Ruger Rimfire Challenge.
The match will be held over both days, but it only takes one day to complete giving you the choice of days.
The targets are all steel. The stages are very new shooter friendly and require no movement.
You can shoot a second gun on the second day in a different division.
The main match will be 11 stages, 5 rifle and 6 pistol requiring a minimum of 220 rounds to complete.
There will also be an optional Precision Rifle Side match.
I am limited on slots, so get those apps in soon. Keep in mind the past 3 Regional Steel Challenge Matches in Pueblo have filled up.
Dont forget to hurry up and get those apps in. I dont want to turn anyone away, but I only have a limited amount of slots.

Hey, Hoser, the application says limited to first 75 applicants. Is that 75 per day? If we shoot Friday, would we need to stay overnight and through Saturday for the awards ceremony?
Cheers,
John
75 total.
If you win a plaque/prize and are not there at the ceremony, I will send it to you.

Thanks for the response. I'm gonna get the apps in for the wife and me ASAP.
Hoser,
Can I run a .22 auto rifle that has a tubular magazine and do you have to compete with both pistol and rifle?
Thanks.
Carl B.
Carl, since you have to run multiple strings, reloading will be really slow unless you have loading tubes. I don't think the rule prohibit it though. NSSF RC requires stages of both rifle and pistol.
We will be running this at CRC as a local match in March so you could certainly come out and try it to see how it works.

Carl B.
Hey Carl. Unfortunately you do have to use both a pistol and a rifle. We will have 5 rifle stages and 6 pistol stages.
A tube mag will be slow to reload compared to a mag fed rifle, but is plenty legal.
See you Saturday.
Thanks, I will get an app. in.

....There will also be an optional Precision Rifle Side match.....
Will this require mag feeding (quick or timed multiple shots) or will a single shot work okay?
Bryan
The side match will emphasize accuracy. The time limit will be generous. No bonus for finishing fast, only hits count.
Dont forget to get those apps in soon. I am limited on slots...

Entry form sent today, oughta be fun.
So, if you've never shot a match like this, will there be some sort of "clinic" beforehand?
Go to a Steel Challenge match and Shoot Rimfire...decent practice.

Entry is in the mail! :)
Burris Optics has stepped up to be a Match Sponsor.
They came to us about donating/sponsoring the match. Very friggin cool.
Just so everyone knows, the match is back to being the Ruger Rimfire Challenge. This was a last minute change. Other than the name, nothing has changed.
And here is a downloadable copy of the rulebook.

Less than 15 slots left. Get those apps in soon.
On which day will the precision rifle side match be held?
On which day will the precision rifle side match be held?
Either day.
I am setting it up Early Friday morning and will leave it set up until the match is finished.
Saturdays match is full. I have a few slots left for Fridays match.
Just to be clear, this match is still on, correct? It's the one at CRC that got canceled.

Yes. The World match is being relocated, not just cancelled.

Without a doubt the Rocky Mountain Regional in Pueblo is still on.
I will be sending out an email later tonight to everyone that is signed up with some match updates.
Shooting will start at 10:00 on Friday and 9:00 on Saturday. Plan on being there for 5-6 hours. Bring lunch and something to drink. Each berm has a picnic bench and shade.
We will start shooting with pistols. Once you have shot all 6 of the pistol stages you will grab your rifle and start shooting the 5 rifle stages. This will keep you from having to drag all your gear with you all day. Having at least 4 magazines for each firearm will make things much easier.
When not shooting, all firearms need to be cased (soft case or hard case) and be kept unloaded. You may not load any firearm until the range officer clears you to. Open bolt indicators are not required, but you may not handle uncased/unholstered weapons at any time other than when on the firing line.
I will email out a copy of the match book and the latest version of the Ruger Rimfire Challenge rulebook early next week.
The squad lists will be posted at the range.
The side match will be shot when you get time to squeeze it in.
I will be at the range around 5:00AM Friday to start setting the stages up.
See you soon.
Everything is set for this weekends match. Please try to show up early to ensure you get checked in.
Fridays shooters meeting is 9:45 and Saturdays is 8:45. The shooters meeting is mandatory.

Will there be a spot to check zero prior to the match?
Will there be a spot to check zero prior to the match?
As long as you get there early there will be. I am assuming you want to check the zero on your side match rifle?
Wish I had the time to run down there and watch. Woohoo rimfire!!!
I have a couple last minute slots for Friday and Saturday.
And guns and suppressors to give away...
Cant win 'em if you dont come out.

What do we need to do to get one of these slots? I would be interested in at least one Saturday slot. If there are two my wife would want to shoot as well.

My wife might also want to shoot on Saturday, if there is a spot.
I got a bunch of PMs last night. Friday and Saturday are full again.
Those that got in received a PM.
Next year, make plans for this same weekend.
Just got back from the Ruger Rimfire Challenge. Thanks to Hoser, Chris and everyone that made this happen. Had a great time and met some great people. Anyone planning on going tomorrow prepare for some fast and fun stages.

Jealous. Any pics?
Hoser and his crew put on a great match. Weather was perfect, sponsors kicked in great prizes, it was challenging and fun.
Good times for sure.
Congrats to all the people that won their division and category. Our very own stats babe wiseasset won Top Lady with Iron Sights and Assistant Match Director rtr won first place with Optical Sights. LimitedGM won Iron sights. Another forum member won the Suppressor Certificate from Silent Precision. Sorry Tim, it wasnt you.
Stewart O won the Semi Auto Precision side match and Bill M won the Bolt Action side match. If you have ever tried to shoot nickels at 50 yards or tennis balls at 140-150 yards with a 22 you know that it was not an easy side match.
The results just went out, let me know if you didnt get them.
Figured out that we shot between 22,000 and 23,000 rounds of 22 over the past two days.
I will post up some pics tomorrow or Monday. Right now I have to get ready for tomorrows rifle match in Pueblo. 3 straight days on the range, cant hate it.

Based on current GunBot pricing, that is about $6900 worth of .22 :D
Glad the event was a success!

I'd like to see them but I didn't shoot the match. Are they also going to be posted online?

Thanks to all the staff for running the match!
Special thanks to the guys from BearCave machining who shot with, and were very patient with, our squad of newbies. Some friends of ours shot this as their first match with their pistol and a rifle I loaned them. It was also my 9 year olds and wife's first RRC match and my 11 year olds second.
Thanks to Ruger, Burris (son got a Tac30 scope), Silent Precision and BearCave for the prizes handed out.
MarkCo. Your oldest can really shoot. I saw him at CRC and got to see one of his rounds this weekend. Quite impressive. Your youngest is quite good too. I think we're gonna be in trouble in year or two, they're gonna be cleaning house at these matches.
Thanks to Hoser for working his butt off to put this on PWSA for hosting and Charlene for doing the scores. Saw a lot of new faces and hope everyone had fun. I know I did. Was able to beat my buddy Craig Calkins because he had some gun problems. Seemed like people enjoyed the side match. I thought it was great fun.
Not sure if this will work, here is one of my stages. Critiques are welcome.
I tried to get a video up but photobucket is upsetting me. Damn internet, who needs it! Its quite choppy on my PC, maybe yours is better.

Geez. Next time I'm at a match I think I'm going to ask in the briefing if anyone is from here. Be nice to put faces to names sometimes. This was me shooting open...was faster with iron sights. 26813

Oh contrarie. That be a prized 3- gun cart of huge value. The story is...my wife went to a 3- gun match without me. They decided to raffle the prize table and she was drawn first. She bypassed all handguns, uppers, etc.....and grabbed the cart. She said she looked up and all my friends were covering their eyes. Her reason? I have guns and uppers. [facepalm]
Thus how I have a gun stroller.
Oh contrarie.

I shot Friday in squad 5.
I was there both days, Squad 7. Didnt shoot.
Well... I did sneak in some shooting Friday afternoon with my 40X while I was waiting for it to get dark. Also below is a pic of the 90 yard target bank. The big plates are 4 inches and the small are 2 inches. All of the targets here have been reset but not repainted. Off to the side you can see the 140 and 160 yard targets. These are just a few racks from my Sportsmans Team Challenge steel I bought a few years back.
