First off, I didn't think the NYT still had people that could write a good article. Even made my wife read it, and she enjoyed it...

I've read of that encounter several times before. I've never seen the interview of Stigler and Brown together. Awesome, honorable men. The world is a lesser place without them.
Very good read. The Luftwaffe in general had very high standards for honor amongst the pilots.
There were other occasions where similar events happened on the Western front. The Soviets were brutal, so you never really heard of things like that on the Ostfront.
I bought the print "A Higher Call" by John Shaw a while back. Signed by both pilots. One of my absolute favorites.
The story to go with it is simply incredible.

Thanks for that. God Bless the honorable men for there are too little left in the world today.
Wow Hoser. I've been searching "A Higher Call" as well as "Low Pass for the Home Folks" on the secondary market for years. Two of my all time favorites that I do not own. Beautiful piece.

Aviation Art Hanger has some a while back. I snagged one, but have yet to get it framed. The Phantom and the Wizard are next up for framing.

What great respect, what great honor...

As he drew closer to the enemy plane, he saw the gunner covered in blood, the aircraft badly damaged and wounded, terrified US airmen inside.
It was then he remembered the words of his commanding officer Lt Gustav Roedel. 'Honor is everything here,' he had told a young Stigler before his first mission.
enjoy the read [Coffee]

The evidence before the court isIncontrovertible, there's no need for
The jury to retire.
In all my years of judging
I have never heard before
Of someone more deserving
Of the full penalty of law.
The way you made them suffer,
Your exquisite wife and mother,
Fills me with the urge to defecate!
"Hey Judge! Shit on him!"
Since, my friend, you have revealed your
Deepest fear,
I sentence you to be exposed before
Your peers.
Tear down the wall!

I never saw the original so Im glad you reposted it Alx
its nothing personal. its just all day long, someone checks their email forwards and they see something "new" which has made the rounds a dozen times allready and twice that day. then they post it here and it clutters everything. ask the mods, all they do now is close duplicate threads all day long.i didnt get an email , i was doing research and came across it and thought it should be shared to a break from the endless price gauging and obummer threads .

Merged.
Thanks for bringing this up again.
“If I ever see or hear of you shooting at a man in a parachute,” Roedel said, “I will shoot you down myself. You follow the rules of war for you — not for your enemy. You fight by rules to keep your humanity.”
How true.
