I was originally going to get an aimpoint comp m4s but nobody has them in stock, so I think i'm just going to order an ACOG. Does anyone want to go out somewhere and let me play with theirs maybe after xmas? It would be greatly appreciated. I just want to make sure that its not too much for what I am going to want to do with it. IE.. Carbine classes, plinking, shooting zombies. You know the usual.

You have the money for an ACOG? Damn, I wish I had your income... I've used them before, I wish I could afford one. The Comp M4s are really nice- you could order one from Opticsplanet.com.

I'm interested in one myself. I'm leaning towards the TA31 of some flavor, but can't decide the reticle i want.

Any advice?

I was going to buy an ACOG but changed my mind and bought a rifle, a cheap optic, and a handgun instead. Saved about $100.

If you can afford an ACOG get one. Best thing I ever bought for my AR. I've got a TA101NSN (http://www.trijicon.com/na_en/products/product3.php?pid=TA01NSN) that I paid like $600 for (just had to jump at the deal).

If I was buying exactly the one I wanted I'd have gone with one of the TA31s (http://www.trijicon.com/na_en/products/product2.php?id=ACOG&mid=4%20x%2032%20BAC) (my TA101NSN is lighted with tritium so someday I'll have to replace the tritium ... the TA31s use the fiber optic in addition to the tritium so even when the tritium burns out you'll have a lighted reticule, that and you still have a lighted reticule in bright sunlight).

But I'm immensely happy with my ACOG and will likely buy others when I add rifles down the road.

I learned at a young age that buying junk cost more in the long run. When you have to replace it over and over again, you may as well spend the money up front and get something that will last. Thats why I got my Barrett Rec7 instead of an $600 rifle.

Thats why I bought my Infiniti instead of Ford.

Give a Brother a break, I have been listening to the democratic disposition of the evil of firearms all day from co workers [Bang]

If someone at work ask me why I need a 'High Capacity Clip" to hunt again I'm going to quit.

Sorry to the OP slight de-rail but back on topic. [Beer]

Do it.. get TA31 for 100 yarder or TA26 for shorter range and CQB stuff. I like the donut over the cross or chevron.

ACOG check..

S550 Check..

Only paid for the ACOG :)

Of course.. I have the income to get several should I choose. I wouldn't have to move in w/ mom either. Never getting into debt when I was younger.. priceless.

You should try being in a law firm.. There have been several rather heated discussions in my office about the 'evils of guns'.. it usually ends with me putting my gun on the desk and saying 'See how evil it is, here you were bad mouthing it and it just sat there not killing anyone'.. Usually ends the conversation.

So everyone has agreed that I should get one. But no one has offered up a chance for me to test drive one. I bring my own ammo :) I havent even seen one in person.

I might be convinced to drive out to let you see one. I have a ta31-ECOS. It has the little docter optic on top.

good job on the Ronin crack. I definitely got a chuckle out of that.

You dont have to go out of your way. I thought about getting the ECOS but I dont know if im willing to spend $1600 on an optic for a 556 platform. If I was looking for a precision optic maybe. Do you think having the RMR on top is worth it?

Requires more training (to maintain proficiency with a magnified optic and a red dot). Some don't like the optic that high, as it doesn't have a good cheek weld.

I like the reticle in there, and I picked mine up for inexpensive.

I had an ACOG for a while, but like a more precise aiming point. I have switched over all my rifles to either 1-4x scopes or 1-6x. What really sealed the deal for me though was the $600 that ACOG wanted to charge me to replace the tritium and the fiber tube on top.

I keep my fiber optic thing covered with tape. I don't like target washout.

What happens when you dont cover it with tape? Again ive never seen one so I have no idea how they work.

It works as advertised.

The tape prevents light from getting in the fiber tube, creating no illumination. Just makes the reticle thinner/finer by not being illuminated.

I picked up a TA33 with the horseshoe/dot reticle for my AR - liked it so much, I got a matching TA11 for the FAL. I went with green horseshoe because from what I've read, green is picked up easier by the human eye and therefore appears brighter - should be able to "see" the tritium longer. I do tape over all but about a quarter inch of the fiber optic when range shooting - dot turns from bright green bulb to dark green circle. I also read the ballistic specs and reviews for the different ACOG reticles and this appeared to be the quickest setup for close in, and easiest to determine 200 and 300 meter aiming points. YMMV
