View Full Version : Possiable Ban on Hi-cap mags???
So lets say that there will be a ban on hi-cap Magazines from Governor HICK.
If I buy one before it goes into effect...Can I still use it?
How would they Police this?

Can't we just calm down and wait to see what their move is, oppose it, and worry about the consequences/specifics when we get them instead of wringing our hands and speculating for months?
But I want to freak out. This is my excuse to buy more PMAGs than I will ever actually use.
All kidding aside, I have no idea how they would police this going forward. If it's anything like living in Denver they are just banned completely.

Sure. Yes. No. Maybe. Depends.

Fear-mongering. Magazine capacity is arbitrary, how high is up?

The standard magazine for an AR platform is 30 rounds, yet they were banned as high-capacity during the last AWB and still are considered high-capacity in places like CA and Denver. High-capacity means whatever number Feinstein dreams up in her little idiot head this week.
Instead of rushing to buy 30 round pmags, I tend to think one might rush to buy 10rd AR mags.... but only assuming the ban is exclusively against magazine capacity (not actual rifles too), and that it's an all-out ban of their use. If they end up forcing a scenario where we can still use our AR's, but only with 10rd mags or smaller, their prices will shoot through the roof.

It is pure speculation on what will be banned or even if there would be a grandfather clause, if anything is banned at all.
Personally I am going to put my efforts to prevent any ban rather than worry about buying what might be banned.

Actually just watch how they did it in California. Any new regulation will basically follow the California format.

Care to explain? I think that CO (much more likely than federally) will almost certainly try to implement many of the same restrictions that CA did... with our current state administration, how could they not try to do so?

I wouldn't be surprised if they did as well. With the slow but steady swing in the voters opinion in CO it has been bound to happen sooner or later

If a ban did go into effect like Denver and I did happen to have any high cap mags...they'd never find them! [dig]

Everyone can relax. I heard it on the news. There was no mention of a magazine ban. However, they do want to ban CLIPS.

Why, I'm not sure, but I bought every last box they had on the shelf at Office Max, just to be safe...

So let me "rephrase" the question as I'm curious as well. During the first AWB (in its entirety) , was it legal in the State of Colorado, in the City of Aurora, inside of Arapahoe County to legally own, possess, use a magazine that held 30 or more cartridges that was manufactured and obtained prior to the AWB taking affect?
Simply put, if I currently have 30 round magazines, based on the previous AWB, would I be able to legally use them should they simply re-instate the old AWB?

We'll be lucky if they simply reinstate the old AWB. It sounds like they're wanting to put a bigger, longer and uncut version in place.

Yes. What was made "ILLEGAL" was the manufacture of NEW magazines with more than a 10 rd capacity. Hence Date stamped AR mags. Some of the "people" complaining like menstruating teenagers regarding Pmag prices now, really have no clue what mags cost running up to 9/94 and after. $60 round pmags (Pussies) Try $100 Colt marked 20 round mags. $45 Glock mags, not even close. SO next time you hear a whine about prices, tell them to screw them self.
Back On topic:
What one chooses to do with something that is banned is up to them as an adult. You are afraid there may be repercussions for owning 20-30+ round mags (Generalization, not U specifically) Sell your shit and sing kyumbya. Myself, It's paid for and is legal to own, Now & Forever.

Well I hope we never have to find out, but I'm glad they weren't gouged last go-round.
thankfully I had plenty of mags before the last go around and never paid the silly prices

On top of that mags made before 94 were imported. I bought lots of 20rd Fal and 30rd AK mags cheap. For most things I prefer the 10-20 rd mags. I have 10 round mags for the SAR3 and X39 AK and enough 20rd ones for the AR's. 30 rd mags for the Fal is just a PITA.
Finally got my backordered 100 round drum yesterday. I was worried it wouldn't get shipped prior to any bans being introduced.

I thought some years ago that Denver banned hi cap mags, I may be wrong and if I am I sure would like to know. Was thinking in my capitalist mind of throwing some Pmags in my back pack and walking the tanner show next week with a sign Pmags $50. But i sure don't want to get into trouble. Yea I know they sell them at Tanner, but want to be safe.
Is the ban going to prevent someone from using a standard capacity magazine at the target range? Reloading after every 15 rounds is not my idea of fun. I own 8 high capacity 30 round magazines right now, and until I move from TN to Colorado, I'm going to continue picking up 30 rounders as necessary. I've kept all my receipts to prove when I bought them as well.
Honestly, I can think of only a few places a standard capacity magazine would be needed any how. The firing range. A competition shooting event. In your own home or on your property. Where else is a standard capacity magazine actually NEEDED by a civilian? Under what circumstances is this standard capacity ban going to take place?
anyone have a copy of the link to the Bill being proposed?
Fixed it for ya.

Search the forum, there's a metric shitton of links. It's not law yet.

lol, but seriously answer my question. is the ban going to prevent the use of a magazine that holds more than 15 rounds at the range or a competition shooting event???
and where else outside of the range, competition, home/property would you need a magazine that holds more than 15 rounds. I'm just trying to see this from all perspectives. :)
Serious face answer.
1. "Grandfather clause"
2. None of your damn business. It's my life, my property, and my right.
Scenario: If I want to carry an AR around in my vehicle and be prepared for multiple aggressors or SHTF, what good does a 15 round mag do me?
lol
Seriously
And on that note, I gotta get some sleep...zzz
