Hi Guys,

I'm relatively new to Colorado and found this site while looking for a good/safe place to shoot. Having moved from the anti-gun Chicago area, I was a bit surprised to see how few indoor ranges there are around here. The ones I've found seem pretty expensive too. In any case, the North shooting area seems like a good free place to go. I hope to join you guys up there sometime soon during a club event. I always had to travel to Wisconsin to shoot rifles outdoors.

Anyhow, my primary current interest is getting better at shooting handguns (have my CO CCW). I've been primarily a revolver person, but really want to focus on being better accustomed to semi-autos. I have a Bushmaster that I bought right after the sunset of the AWB, but haven't had an opportunity to fire it yet. Hopefully you guys will be gentle on this newbie.

If you guys have any more suggestions about where to shoot (I spend most of my time between Boulder and Broomfield), please let me know. I'm looking for a safe place to go. After reading the posts here, I also am afraid to go to LHC. If there are any clubs in the area worth joining (and accepting members), that would be helpful info as well.

Cheers,
Mike

Hi Mike, Welcome

I was in Chicago once, I ran from one plane to another in Midway airport[LOL]

We have a small shooting area up in St. Vrain canyon. Not too bad and a little safer than LH. In fact We do have a Shoot this Sat. Directions are down in the Club Shoot area.

Thanks guys for the welcome. I'm hoping to meet up with you guys in February. This Saturday I have to entertain family, otherwise I would be there. Glad to hear you guys weren't in Chicago for long. I was stuck there for about a decade.

Karl, the place you went to is the place I went shooting (Conservation Club of Kenosha County - http://www.bristolranges.com/). The people there were always very helpful as I was just starting out in the guns at the time.

Mike, if you don't mind a bit of a drive, Pawnee Sportsmans Center is where I shoot rifles, and quite a bit of handgun also in the summer. There is an indoor range in Ft. Collins that is owned by the same people, that's more comfortable in the winter, and it's closer. (8 shooting positions, 25yds with electric target trolleys). Both are easy and inexpensive to join. Many in the Denver area are slow going through waiting lists for memberships. (I believe Boulder Rifle Club is about 10 years out for new members now) However, you can shoot at their events. Public can shooth at both Pawnee (near Briggsdale) and Rocky Mountain Shooting Sports in Ft. Fun. It's just cheaper if you join. The Pawnee range has 250 yd and 100 yd covered rifle ranges, a couple of 50yd pistol ranges, one covered. It also has cowboy action shooting and some great trap/skeet etc areas. Nicest people you'll ever shoot with at both places.

Google either for addl. info.

Pawnee is 45 minutes for me from south Ft. Collins.
