This is the requested NoCo Casualty Care Class. Any North area or Wyoming shooters who want Casualty Care here is your chance. HBARLeatherneck is offering up the space for this class (Thanks!!)

Casualty Care is designed to provide Hunters, Sportsman, and Shooters in general with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to treat a injuries received from severe penetrating and blunt force trauma. From a negligent discharge at the range to cutting yourself dressing you deer in the backcountry the ability to provide rapid trauma care to yourself or buddy may mean the difference between life and death.

We will look at the current Tactical Combat Casualty Care Guidelines and show you how the same skills can be applied in the civilian setting. We will show real world examples of the need for the knowledge and proper tools to deal with severe trauma. Finally we will look at the leading causes of preventable combat death and how the same injuries and injury patterns can occur atthe range or while hunting.

Bring your First Aid Kit or Trauma Kit. We will practice all the necessary skills and have many of the major medical supplies so you can practice with what you have in your kit. If you do not have a kit you will get to practice with everything and with our experience gain a better understanding of what you should buy.

I'll bring my trauma kit and small surgical tool kit, and always have a basic first aid kit in my car, but i'm positive what I have is inadequate in the scheme of possibilities. I'm sure I'll have a pretty good list of items to buy after this class.

I have PM'd the address to those who have registered - Sawin +1, Blowby, Beast556, and Jim. There are still some spots open. For those coming do I need to procure any supplies you think you may want or need? I may have some CAT's and Combat Gauze for class, but if there is anything else let me know and I will see what I can get. See ya'll in a couple weeks.

Maybe you can list what is required or items you will need us to bring to get the most out of class. Then I can tell you what I need. I have a basic kit and TQ.

Good suggestion Blowby, thanks. I too have a basic first aid kit, a pre-packaged trauma kit I picked up from some site a while back, and a very basic surgical kit. I've got a some quickclot in my range bag as a last resort kind of thing too, but i won't bother bringing that muck.

If you have a kit and use certain items I want you to practice with what you use. I have extras of most every piece of an IFAK so you won't be out any money or have to buy any replacement stuff. Your basic IFAK should have a TQ (CAT or SOF-T are preferred), Hemostatic Agent if you choose, Gauze, Pressure Dressing, Chest Seal, NPA, Trauma Shears and Gloves. Anything you have in your IFAK above or beyond this is OK. Since this class is looking at the leading causes of preventable death in regards to penetrating trauma we won't get into much else, we can discuss other things but I don't have the stuff to practice with.

Without getting into why (we will do that in class) here are my suggestions for what your IFAK should have:
TQ - CAT Primary & SWAT-T Backup
Hemostatic - Combat Gauze
Pressure Dressing - OLAES
Gauze - S-Rolled Gauze (if you do not have the OLAES)
Chest Seal - HALO
NPA - Any, they are all the same
Trauma Shears or Rescue Hook (Not a knife)

Hope this helps

I don't have a kit as of know. My plan was to put one together after the class. Will this be ok, or do i need to have one prior to the class?

cmailliard
01-28-2013, 20:48
If don't have a kit no worries, the only reason I asked if you guys needed anything is just in case you wanted more of what you use. Like I said I have just about every type of TQ, pressure dressing, chest seal, etc. so you can use it all, see what you like then buy based on that.

Amen to the grattitude to both Chris's. April and I both learned a lot especially about some great life saving products that we should definitely keep on hand. HBAR, I didn't get to tell you congratulations on your beautiful family, you are a very blessed man! We really appreciate your hospitality and generosity in providing the space for the class and lunch/snacks. It was great to meet a few more members in person, and see a couple of you again.
