So here's a couple other projects that I worked on this last semister... One was an AR15 done up in 300 blackout (because I could find no reamers in 7.62x40) with a custom made piston system, and the other was my mauser stock, oh, and a 458 SOCOM barrel and bolt.
I guess I'll start out with the 458 SOCOM barrel and bolt since those are the ones that I have the least ammount of pictures of......
This is the only "working" picture I have of this barrel:

Here is the finished barrel, with the bolt that I had to open up to fit the 458... The bolt face is horrendous because my bit broke, and it was the last day of class, and I had to shoot the 458 to get a grade. I didn't have time to clean it up... Next semister...

This next part is my piston system that I had to make to do what I wanted with my 300.
Drilled the first hole (what will be the barrel channel).

Widened it out...

This is hitting my final dimension with a boreing bit...

Then I drilled the hole for the piston thingy that goes inside of the block...

I don't have any pictures of making the thingy that goes inside of the gas block, but here is the beginning of it with the inside diameter cut to dimension, and the hole for the gas drilled out. I also cut to flats to hold onto later on, on the gas block.

It fits!

At this time, I cut down the second dimension that the gas piston fits over to size, and make the keeper nut for the end.

This is what it looks like when put together.

I don't have any pictures of making the piston rod, and just have the semi finished product (I still have to final shape the gas block).

This is the threads on the 300 after I was done... Good enough...

The barrel... It is a Shilen barrel, and I will never ever buy another one again... F*&K Shilen and their hard spots.... There was a crap load of chatter on this thing and I had to take 9 "final" passes to get it to where it is now. I do however like the way it looks. It looks like it is a damascus barrel because of it.....

I didn't get any pictures of it getting chambered... the gas port drilled... or anything else I guess, oh well. Here it is installed though. The gas block is adjustable, you can see the set screw on the side of it in this picture kinda covered by the handguard, but seen in the first hole. I need to take that hole out a little more so the screw is accessible. I didn't go with a normal length for a gas system either. I went almost dead center of a carbine and a mid length gas system so that I could but the gas block up exactly with the end of the fore

I still have a few things to do on this like the final shaping of the gas block, the small cut on the forend, and the cerakoting of the upper, lower, and gas block in burnt bronze. Oh, and putting a left side charging handle on it...
