I don't have any money for gun purchases right now ... and since we don't know exactly what form any new legislation (if any) will take, stocking up for either reason is risky.

That said I should probably start saving up for a boat. :p

I belong to a couple of forums for other interests, including a wood-working forum. There was an extensive discussion between three other forum members about 'investing' in high capacity magazines. One had a couple of ARs, another had one AR, and a third had no real interest in shooting, but they split a 100 mag case of PMAGs between them. One is pretty adamant that "these will be a better investment than gold" in the coming years. The fever has already worked it's way down to the casual owner.

I'm staying at a hotel in Murfreesboro, TN for work. There is a fairly large gun store right next to my hotel. I was in there last Sunday, and they were pretty well stocked. Friday evening when I got off of work, their parking lot was full to capacity, including the adjacent unpaved areas and the streets. I walked over there today at noon. It's packed to capacity, there are no AR or AK mags of any kind, most of the ammo is gone, and one customer was putting a serious amount of effort into buying one of the rental guns. I spent more time walking across the street and into the shop then I did looking around.

Investment or not, more than a few of us can remember 20 rd COLT Marked AR mags bringing $75-100 EACH. About the only time anything marked COLT actually gave a good return investment:)

Yep, Glock Hi cap mags for $130, AKs for $1500-2000.. THat a week before were $150, it happened quick, and everyone said it wouldn't happen

I'll just toss this in. Another member who is wiser than me pointed this out. Lets say a person was to buy an AK today. Lets say some sort of federal law is passed making the transfer of such item illegal. That person is essentially "stuck" with the AK as it has no value if it can't be sold. Same with magazines. What if those people stockpiling magazines could never legally sell them to another individual? Might not look like such a wise investment then.

This is the reason for FTF sales WITHOUT A BOS! My date of possession vs date of Law vs date of transfer is one that will fall on the fed's to decide.
One more item, no matter what happens in the congress and gets signed by O, Expect a long court case by the surpremes. UNLESS O and the dems wait for the 'smoke" so to speak clear. Congress is back in session, rattling of sabre's regarding GC. The ace up O's sleeve. he already knows a SC judge will be retiring. O appoints one of the more liberal judges then goes to town on the 2nd after he/she is sworn in.

I hear that. I've lost money on nearly every transaction I've done. Usually overpay for something I REALLY want, take it to the range and try carrying it for a month and decide it is less than a perfect fit for me, then see something posted that I ABSOLUTELY NEED TO HAVE and sell my overpriced item for 30% less than I paid for it (throwing in ammo I bought for it and no longer need), then pay well over blue book value for the gun I think is PERFECT.

Shit, since I moved to Denver 5 years ago, if I kept track of all the money I lost on gun deals it would probably be enough to buy a really nice used car. However, my small gun collection is absolutely PERFECT. I'm never selling any of them unless I'm out of work again. The last two times I lost my job (due to company folding) selling off my gun collection was a welcome supplement to the measly unemployment benefits you get.
