The Huckabee thread got Me thinking, If You could constuct Your own President What would be the qualities? My thoughts;

1) Staunch supporter of the 2A. Self explianitory.

2) Work for the elimination of the welfare state. I can see the need of some people, Like the handicapped, It's the ones that are completely lazy that need to be forced off of it. If nothing else, give them a choice, get off welfare by finding a job, of get out there and pick up roadside trash 10 hours a day,6 days a week, That way they'll be to tired to produce the next generation of leeches.

3) The borders. At a minumum, bring it to the standard of the rest of the world. Name another Nation that has such an open policy, Kind of hard isn't it.

4) TAX CUTS,TAX CUTS, and,TAX CUTS. Lets face it, They work, nothing bolsters the economy better. Corperate tax cuts might also bring back manufacturing jobs. Shy of the national sales tax working the way it is intended to work, this is the best.

5) Foreign Aid. Needs to be cut by 75%. Most of it is not being used for it's intended purpose anyway.

6) Military. With the money save on welfare and foreign aid is spent on The Military. Hey, I was in the Army during the Reagan years. All sorts of cool stuff came out.

That is just a basic list. Feel free to agree or disagree or add to the list.

get rid of the multi-tier tax system and go with a reasonable flat tax, quit rewarding the lazy and taxing the ambitious.

You summed it up good for me the only thing I would add is a flat tax. The problem with our current tax system is people who work under the table, illegals and big corps that play games with tax shelters.

We need a flat tax that way nobody can get away with out paying there fair share period.

I would start with Ted Nugent. Mix in some Ronald Reagan, Henry Kissinger, and Thedore Roosevelt. Add a dash of Ben Franklin & Einstein stir. Top him off with a thick layer of Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Now for a V.P.
I'm thinking a military type... Patton or Schwarzkopf as the base for the mold......Mix in some ????

All good suggetions so far. I would add a strong desire to cut whole gov departments and good start would be the Dept of Education, put it back to the states.

Cut or eliminate everything the gov has no business doing, I.E. supporting the arts, funding studings that should be done by others. A fair or flat tax with no provisions to be raised beyond a cetain low % maybe 10 or less.

With the current corruption we have now nothing will ever be done to reduce or eliminate the size of the gov.

1. Reduce gun control to background checks. Absolutely no bans.
2. Leave Iraq, tell them you have x number of years to get your act together. Screw off.
3. Abolish the correct tax system, replace it with a flat tax
4. Remove the state from marriage
5. Repeal all "morality laws"
6. Enact school vouchers
7. Eliminate welfare to all but the most most needy
8. Abolish Social Security

I know we're a "Pro-2nd" Site, but how about a plane ol' Constitutionist? Oh wait, that candidate is already out there..

I think government staffing and spending levels need to be looked at realistically. There are departments that are over funded while others are left swinging in the wind, trying to meet Presidential mandates that are not funded, taking away funding from their actual mission. We deal with this at US Fish and Wildlife on a daily basis and I can site dozens of mandates that are federal law for all intents that have zero funding, so we take money from other programs that are actually mission focused to meet silly rules.

I think there are things the Fed gov should be doing and things that they shouldn't be. I think one of the easiest ways to wipe out our national debt would be to pull back Foreign Aid as mentioned above. Why the hell do we still Pay so much money to Europe and Asian countries?

Wiping out the welfare state is all well and good on paper, but without a seriously enforced plan, it's for naught. A bit of a pet peeve for me is that my Autistic son can't get all of the educational and therapeutic support he needs (I make a fair living, but cannot afford everything by any stretch) and nor can the absolute majority of Special Needs children in America! 1 in 155 children have a form of Autism.. Why isn't more money being put into finding the reason and effective treatments? Because we'd rather spend money on giving Iraqi's guns that they lose or turn against us.

We're a rich country and very powerful in a global sense, but finding the ideal president won't be the solution... finding new folks to run the country is.

I'd also say that we need to look at adopting the Heinlein approach to citizenship.. Serve your country to earn the benefits and the franchise!

spot on, badshot. constitutionally, the president only has the authority to do so much. and while the commander in chief is important, very important in fact, electing congressman and senators who mirror everyone's above-listed principles is also important. the senate race for our open seat in colorado is a dead heat right now and the libs are pumping money into it from all over the country. but step back from the federal level for a moment and look at our state level. 2011 will be redistricting with the new census numbers, and whatever party is in power will be the one who jerymanders them to their advantage. so it's important to take back state legislature seats over the next 2 elections - or the next decade will be even more challenging.

along a similar track... i just finished reading an awesome novel about libertarians/conservatives/constitutionalists/capitalists tactically moving to wyoming and electing their people to take over the whole state gov over a period of a decade. once in power they start repealing all of the gov controls on the wyoming citizen's lives (speed limits, building permits, licensure requirements, privatizing education). it's definitely a book for 2A supporters and free market lovers (and an easy read for slow readers - like me). to disincentivize libs from moving there, the new government passed a law that stated you were exempt from paying sales tax if, while making your purchase, you had a loaded open carry pistol on your hip or loaded rifle over your shoulder. interestingly, statewide crime decreased. next came a $500 tax credit for anyone who could shoot a 4 MOA. statewide rifle sales and group shoots increased. what a state culture! [AR15]the book is 'molon labe' by boston t. party (that's a fantastic pen name!). has anyone else read this yet?

amazon's ($18) got great reviews, but if you're looking to pick up a copy, www.fredsm14stocks.com (http://www.fredsm14stocks.com) has it for $12 - along with other great 2A books.
