Well with the guns bans looming I figured its time to join the AR club. I was gunna do it with my tax return but who knows if we have that long. So I picked up a Windham AR15 .223 from Sportsmans with an extra Pmag and a walmart cheapo red dot for now until I can afford better optics. Cant wait to shoot it, hopefully I can find some ammo as everyone sold out this weekend. But looks very good quality and has had great reviews. Apparently its made by the original Bushmaster guys and everything is made here in the USA

Nice AR. Get some decent BUIS so you're not SOL when that optic dies.

Thanks guys! But what does BUIS mean, sorry Im a newb. When I get the funds Ill most likely switch to a scope of some kind and ditch the red dot.

Back Up Iron Sights. When your optic dies they'll provide you with the ability to still shoot accurately.

Ahh gotcha, thanks. I was thinking it was something like that lol. I was looking at the flip up magpal sights there but they were a lil spendy so Ill try to find some online. Any recomendations?

And with some red dots, you can still use your BUIS while looking through the dead optic, so it wouldn't have to be removed necessarily.

Also, it will develop your shooting skills much faster to start out learning to shoot with irons than with an optic. I did the optic thing first and wished I had done irons.

However, because you have a railed front gas block, you CAN NOT use MagPul BUPS (back up polymer sights) or they will melt. So you'll need to get a metal front iron sight if you want to have them. Just a heads up. My rifle was the same way, and I ended up installing a low profile gas block and a 10" free float rail so I could get a longer sight radius and use whatever I wanted.

And fyi, I mentioned the MagPul sights because they are CHEAPER than other options. In fact, they are probably the cheapest alternative to having a triangle front sight and only having to buy a rear sight.

Congrats of your AR purchase! I have the rear Magpul BUIS which only cost me about $50. After putting hundereds of rounds through my Colt AR, the Magpul BUIS are still dead on.
