For years, I'm the gun guy, and I preach to everyone, you should get some level of protection for yourself, etc It's not instantaneous, it takes training and practice
does anyone listen?????????
hell no, it's like talking to a wall.
this week?????????
ring ring, Hey, JohnTRourke, can you come to the gunstore with me and help me choose a gun? (repeat ad Naseum for all the same people that I have been preaching to for YEARS)
fucking idiots
1. it's a little fucking late now, probably empty shelves are all we are going to find.
2. it's certainly going to be more expensive (aint' no deals and I don't blame them, I wouldn't deal either)
3. ain't going to be no extra mags or probably even ammo
WHERE THE FUCK HAVE YOU BEEN FOR THE LAST 5 (20) YEARS???????????
It's a lot easier to prepare BEFORE the shit goes down than after.
and yes, I'm going, and damn right they are buying lunch and driving and I"m not taking any stupid shit anymore. (but but but, what about a judge? fuck no, take me home right now)
So your friend calls you asking for your help at buying a firearm and you call him a fucking idiot [Dunno]

I think he's a little frustrated and I don't blame him.
Hey where are you going? I could use some advice while you are at the gun store. [ROFL2]
Just kidding, I'm all set.
Definitely make him buy lunch and drive! But, for your time he buys you a couple of mags![Coffee]

I always get the "If anything ever happens, I'll just come over to your house."
1) You may not get here.
2) I may not be here.
3) You show up with no food, water, supplies, guns, ammo or skills I can use, you aren't getting in. I warned you.
I'm sure the same thing is happening to all of us. I am just glad people are waking up, and I don't mind helping them.

Why not? They, as i have done with people, been warned, schooled, given advice.
YOU Never wait until you run out of gas to fill your tank. That's what i have been saying. How those who have not acted interpret it is, well up to them.

These comments drive me up the freakin walls. The only people that say that shit to me are liberals. My response is if shit goes south it's more than likely that their agendas caused it, so no effing way. The inn is full.

It's a good time to point them to all the deals for sale here, so everyone selling something can unload what they have.
"Hi, my house is on fire...can you come down to Home Depot and help me pick out a fire extinguisher?" [Bang]
Got the same thing from my sister this weekend
My wife just called me to propose that we put ammo on the grocery list each week...[Shock]

Took the words right out of mouth.
I just had this conversation with some of our close friends. "We know where we are going when SHTF!"
Well, if you wanna come, you better start building your stockpile at my house.

I tell the ones that don't bring anything to the fight to not bother. I tell the ones that do where to meet me at.

She's thinking, I like that.
For years my Brother in law and my wife's cousins have said AR's were fun. However, they were never really useful or worth having. Now they all want to know if I have any receivers I may not be using.

My side of the family is well armed (they are all in Tennessee...kind of a given) and my wife's side of the family started to buy a couple months ago. we got a couple "sporting rifles" and a few sidearms picked up in the last few months....i'm glad i got my message across to them. plus they are really cool inlaws.

In the spirit of the old saying "Ass, Grass or gas: no one rides for free" I say sure you can show up. What are you bringing with you? Guns and Ammo? Food? Hot willing chick for my harem? No? Dont bother showing up, you're going to get shot.

I got the same, "We're coming to your house if the SHTF," thing from my best friend. So for Christmas I bought him and his family things I'd could always use spares of if the SHTF :D I killed two birds with one stone there (though it remains to be seen if he's actually happy with his Christmas presents LOL

If you got the hot chicks, I'll bring guns, ammo, food, and two ready and willing guys to watch our backs (me and the bro)... Possibly could contribute a few babes as well... [Beer]

I have been ignoring similar texts from libs who want IN before the ban. These are the same folks that support the ban. Fking hypocrites.
funny how people disagree with your opinion until your opinion turns out to be right and they fear not being able to have a gun to protect themselves. glad you are still going with them. hopefully they can find something

I've had friends ask me for gun recommendations, but I've never had anyone say that they were coming over when the SHTF, unless I had previously invited them. The only person I've invited is my brother.

Have had the same texts today from friends. I told them IF they find any it will cost them a pretty penny. Bear Arms as far as I could tell only had Colt 6920's in stock with some other high end AR's. All Stags, DPMS, Rock River, etc were gone!

Same sh*t different group. SHTF I'm coming over to your house.
1. I'm a Gated community of One!
2. Just because we work together don't assume that I like you!
3. You didn't help me out what so ever when I have asked for it!
4. I know you have absolutely nothing to help me or the cause out!
5. Piss the FU*K Off!!
I've put off all kinds of stuff, just like last time, because I have other things to use my money for. I'll just have to wait until next time I guess.
Anyway, a family member has been talking about buying a gun for a long time. Last night we met at a gun store 15 minutes minutes before closing. He walked in, I pointed, he started filling out paper work.

So, update (thursday)
Person 1. I spent an hour on the phone going over all their options. (what do you want a gun to be used for? what's your budget, blah blah blah). They live in suburbia (houses on top of each other) and they say "I want home defense first of all and i want an AR15"
No you don't. Only if you are willing to go thru your neighbor's house adn his neighbor's house. For home defense in your situation that's not the tool. Now look I'm all about AR15's and before my horrible boating accident, i might have had one or two, but if you can only afford one gun and your priority is home defense, then a nice shotgun is a better tool. Cheaper, more instinctive (less practice, they won't ever go to the range, I already know), less chance of overtravel, etc.
Then she says (his wife) oh, well I might want something to carry.
Well, take the class first. how are you going to carry it (what location, where? when?), what size, etc. oh well, we'll just start with looking at shotguns.
so, of course, they come home with a Walther pistol (seriously, WTF, who even owns one of these? maybe decent, maybe not, but I can think of 10 pistols I would point a first timer to before that) and a AR15
So, they spent over their budget, didn't solve either one of their problems (home defense or carry) and didn't listen to one fucking word that i said. Now, great, i'm all about guns, BUT DON'T WASTE MY FUCKING TIME asking for advice if you aren't going to listen.
Person 2.
Says he wants something to carry and then for the nightstand. Well, that's two different jobs but we can certainly start there. I give a ton of suggestions, i actually show him some different stuff from my collection before we go to the gun store so he has some general ideas and he seems to be honing in on what I think all of us would think are reasonable solutions for the problem at hand, given that he needs to try some and see how they fit.
he calls up today, blah blah blah and I say "bring money".
Well, i might not buy today.
Well don't waste my or the gun store's time then. This shit is not ok when it's crazy fucking busy. You want to finger fuck 100 guns and then not buy the one you like the best? They are busy (hugely busy) and I'm not wasting their time. They don't know you, but they do know me and I do a lot of business there.
So, now he can't go because I won't waste hours of my time for him not to buy something.
Fucking ASKholes (people who ask for your advice and then ignore it)
From now on my advice is "glock"
well we want to do X,y,z
yeah, glock, next person in line please.
i don't even care what the problem is, you wont' listen to what i say anyway, so what difference does it make?

I had assumed this same thing until I was pointed to some good arguments and ballistic evidence to prove otherwise. I'll see if I can find the thread here that had all this good info on the subject.

I must concur with Cofi...Shotguns are great, but you can still short-stroke the pump if you don't have good form, and too mamy people think that a shotgun has a 45-degree wide target area...
I think that for home defense, you're much better off with a high-cap pistol with a high-intensity weapon light. Gives you more freedom of movement (can operate with one hand), has the stopping power needed (assuming correct caliber & type of round), light can be used for clearing spaces & disorentation of the attacker, and as long as you apply sound CQB principals (properly slice the pie, etc.) then weapon retention should not be as much of an issue...(and how many of people using rifles/shotguns for HD are actually using their slings properly anyway?)
my 2 cents.....
