View Full Version : JAX - no more AR's or hi cap mags.
Called JAX (Lafeyette) to see if they had something in stock (MP 15-22) the young man had the gun counter only had this to say "JAX is no longer selling AR platforms, or handguns with a capacity of more than ten".

This has me wondering as well. It isn't like any company (whose primary focus is to generate revenue) to simply cut out a portion of their profits due to a moral compass suddenly run-amok as the result of a recent tragedy.
Either these companies are receiving encouragement (pressure) from somewhere, or they are fearful of future boycotts. I'm guessing the former because I find it highly improbable that they would preemptively counter boycotts that haven't happened yet.
It will be interesting to see Wal-Marts moves in the coming days.

A few years ago I went into Gander Mountain in Aurora and asked about an AR. The guy behind the counter said something to the effect that AR type rifles did not portray the right image, or some bullshit like that. (They had since re-thought that once they realized there was money to be made.) But from that day on I never stepped foot in that store. And I will now do the same favor for JAX and Dicks.
Well for FUX sake, JAX...... Not sure I'll be going there again.
It will be interesting to see Wal-Marts moves in the coming days.

well Dick's always sucked, so that doesn't surprise (and they never got a dime of my money), but Jax, well fuck you too Jax. I think I'll go in tomorrow, load up a full shopping cart with lots of high profitable stuff, walk up towards the checkout and then ask to see a manager. when he (she) comes up, politely explain that I don't do business with companies that don't support the constitution and walk out.

Should not be a huge suprise to anyone but Cheaper Than Dirt has seized all firearms sales effective immdeiatly. Just saw this on Facebook and went to their page and saw their banner stating it. Never been a customer and never will be.
From their Facebook page:
Cheaper Than Dirt! is suspending online sales of firearms effective immediately. We are reviewing our policy internally, and will continue to be the leader in the outdoor industry with our full line of gear and accessories.
Cheaper Than Dirt! has temporarily suspended online sales of firearms.
As a long time supporter of the Second Amendment, Cheaper Than Dirt! will continue to promote the safe and responsible use of firearms by law abiding customers. During this temporary suspension, we will review our policies and promotions.

Unbelievable, I have a coupon sitting on my desk for $5 bucks off a purchase of $25 or more. I was planning on stopping in at the Lafayette one to use it for a box of SD ammo. I won't be doing that now. I will stop by and make sure to voice my opinion on their practice.
Too bad, I have tried to support the Lafayette shop since they opened, because of the convenience factor, I could pick up small amounts of reloading supplies, and avoid the hazmat shipping fees, but never again.

I wonder if it si company wide. The one in Fort Collins has a large firearm/hunting department and they have alwasy had lots of AR15 type rifles and well as AKs.
Most of Jaxs customers are yuppies and I do not see this move hurting them at all.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Investors shunned some of the nation's largest gun makers Tuesday in the aftermath of the Connecticut school shooting, including making plans to sell the company that manufactures the Bushmaster semi-automatic rifle used in the bloody attack.
Stocks of other gun companies fell, and one sporting-goods chain said it would temporarily stop sales of military-style firearms. In Washington, some former opponents of gun control signaled that they may change their position, potentially giving stricter gun laws their best chance of passage in years.
The most notable rejection of the gun industry came when the private-equity firm Cerberus Capital Management announced it would sell the maker of the rifle used in the massacre, which it called a "watershed event."
The shooting "raised the national debate on gun control to an unprecedented level," Cerberus said in papers announcing the planned sale. "We are investors, not statesmen or policy makers."
Bushmaster, Remington and DPMS are among the brands made by Freedom Group Inc., the largest firearms maker in the U.S.
The Madison, N.C., company sold 1.1 million rifles and shotguns last year, along with 2 billion rounds of ammunition. Its products are sold to law enforcement and military customers, as well as retailers who serve hunters and gun enthusiasts.
Cerberus, a large private-equity firm best known for investing in Chrysler and other troubled corporations, appears to have been under pressure from two sources: investors and the threat of more gun control.
Officials at California's huge teacher pension fund said they were reviewing a $600 million investment in Cerberus in light of the Connecticut shooting.
Through its stake in Cerberus, the California State Teachers' Retirement System owns a 2.4 percent stake in Freedom Group, according to the pension fund.
Fund spokesman Michael Sicilia confirmed the fund owns approximately $4 million in shares of Sturm Ruger & Co. and $1.7 million in shares of Smith and Wesson.
Freedom Group has lost money in four of the last five years, according to financial filings on its website. Revenue in 2011 was $775 million, down from $848.7 million in 2009. Slightly more than half of its 2011 revenue came from guns, much of the rest from ammunition.
Cerberus filed papers in 2009 to take Freedom Group public, but withdrew the bid in 2011 without saying why. A Cerberus spokesman declined to comment Tuesday beyond the company's statement.
The assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 restricted the sale of some types of guns like those made by Bushmaster. The adoption of a similar law "could have a material adverse effect on our business," Freedom Group noted in its announcement.
In 2010, Freedom Group said it would close its Bushmaster plant in Windham, Maine, and shift the work to a plant in Ilion, N.Y. At the time, New York Sen. Charles Schumer praised the move as a way to strengthen Remington's ability to compete for Defense Department gun contracts.
Firms like Cerberus are basically privately run pools of money that invest in companies on behalf of pension funds. On Tuesday, the fund attempted to distance itself from the national debate.
"It is not our role to take positions, or attempt to shape or influence the gun control policy debate," the firm said. "That is the job of our federal and state legislators."
Meanwhile, Dick's Sporting Goods Inc. suspended sales of all "modern sporting rifles," the industry term for military-style guns. The company also removed all guns from display at its store closest to Newtown.
Dick's has not promoted military-style guns as much as some other retailers. Its circular distributed in newspapers on Sunday had a full page of hunting rifles, but no military-style ones.
By contrast, St. Paul-based retailer Gander Mountain featured a Black Rain Ordnance Inc. PG9, a military-style semiautomatic rifle, for $2,000. Other military-style guns were featured throughout, including several from Bushmaster. Such advertisements are generally printed well in advance, and so would have been prepared before Friday's shooting.
A Gander Mountain spokesman declined to comment on whether it would change its gun lineup.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT (http://research.scottrade.com/public/stocks/snapshot/snapshot.asp?id=1&symbol=WMT)), which sells Bushmaster rifles in some stores, said it would not change the guns it sells, although a Bushmaster rifle that it still sells stopped showing up on its website Tuesday.
All the talk about additional gun control appeared to be driving increased gun sales, though. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation said it received a record 4,154 requests for background checks on Saturday, the day after the shooting.
That was slightly more than on its normal biggest day, Black Friday.
Bob Irwin, CEO of The Gun Store in Las Vegas, said customer traffic has jumped since the school shooting, with many customers concerned that more gun laws will be enacted. He has not pulled any guns from the shelf.
"My belief is the individual nutcase did this," he said. "The company that manufactured the gun didn't. That seems silly to deprive my normal customers of product because somebody misused a product from the same company. I can't really get my head around that being the rational reaction."
He agreed that the Connecticut attack demanded some kind of action. He suggested adding more security officers at schools.
Shares in publicly-traded gun makers dropped for a third-straight day.
Shares of Sturm, Ruger & Co. dropped 7.7 percent to close at $40.60. They're down almost 11 percent since Thursday, the day before the shooting. Shares of Smith & Wesson Holding Corp. fell 10 percent to $7.79 - down almost 15 percent from their Thursday close.
Outdoor goods retailer Cabela's Inc. fell almost 6 percent to close at $38.77.

I asked JAX about this on their Facebook page, and this was their response:
: "The unthinkable tragedy in Connecticut last Friday reinforced the reservations we have been feeling for some time about Jax selling both paramilitary semiautomatic weapons and large capacity magazines. These products do not align well with either the Jax mottos of "Grown-up and Still Having Fun!" or "Life is Better Here." Effective immediately Jax will no longer reorder, special order, or replace any AR15 or other paramilitary semi automatic firearms or high capacity clips exceeding 10 rounds of any kind."
I guess I know where I won't be shopping anymore.

DHS/FBI went around to all mil-surp/prepper and I'm sure gun stores about a year ago asking them to "voluntarily" participate in this "citizen watch" program of theirs. I read their letter and was a little spooked by it.
Walmart is supposedly still selling AR's (if you can find one), they just removed it from their website.
Cheaper than dirt was selling a 20 round box of PMC Bronze for $20 around noon today, now down to $12 and some change. Black Pmags were going for $50 each. FDE are now $29.97. Now I have nothing against free market capitalism but this is ridiculous. They wont get any of my money ever again.
I was in Dick's tonight and was told by the gun counter guy that they were instructed to remove all AR's from the sales floor. They aren't doing anything with them yet so who knows what they'll do. Dicks and Sports Authority had sales on select ammo of buy one, get one 50% off. Makes me wonder if they are going to get out of the firearm biz.

I was pissed to see this too. I liked Jax in Lafayette due to them having a little bit of everything, and I always got their $5 off coupons. What a bummer they jumped on the wagon
Had the same problem with the store in fort collins. Found them at jensens in loveland and always fair on their prices.

I used to like shopping at JAX back in the day. About the last 3 years it started to become more of a yuppie run, yuppie outdoor store. I will defintely not be doing any business with JAX in the future over this little stunt.

I doubt Sports Authority is going out of the firearm business, they had the same sale on ammo last year around this time. Then again they only really sold hunting rifles and a few select revolvers anyways, at least at the ones I frequent.

I bought the last AR-10 Jax in Lafayette had in stock (no price gouging on it). I'm torn as to whether I should be pissed or pleased about that. Regardless, that's the last time I'll purchase from them. It's a shame too because they were the only local place that I was able to find a lefty Remington 870 so I was kinda keen on the store. I guess I can say that at least I got what I wanted from them before they turned into a pussy outfit.

Wow, I didnt believe it as they are a major surplus dealer, but after seeing it first hand on their facebook, I believe it now. I'll be sure to tell everyone I know about those collaborators.
