You got a cat? They like to mix things up from time to time. I'd check everywhere / everything.

Check p-trap under bathroom sink. When nasty stuff(hair, dirt, makeup, etc.) builds up and rots over time it smells bad, a gust of wind can occasionally cause a burp in the vent system and push a little of that smell into room(not actual sewer gas). If it happens with any regularity it is probably an unfortunate result of drain vent configuration. If it is a constant smell - real drain/sewer issues.

Unlikely, but if no other obvious causes, something to check out.

Try scrubbing that shitter from time to time.

A little cup of bleach in the sink drain, let it sit for an hour before flushing with cold water. Make sure the wax ring/seal under the toilet bowl is not leaking any, it could cause wood rot of the floor and a bad smell, no matter how small the leak. Check for any other possible hidden leaks.

Check the upper deck of the toilet. Might be a turd in there. [pileoshit]

Hell, if it's that old, there's probably all kinds of sources for wierd smells! Has the plumbing ever been snaked out? Probably had a few shitter overflows in its days, rotten nasty wood is definitely a possibility. A house that old could have all kinds of plumbing issues. And wiring issues too.
