done by January with every power of his office.

Done by January? He has no interest in going through the legislature then.

What is done by January? Someone please expand upon what the speech was about.

He said that Biden will be in charge of creating legislation that should be completed by January. He made it a point that this would not drag out and that they would be ready to move with every power of his office ASAP.

nothing we haven't already heard

I just turned it on but looks like I missed the gun control thing. Talking about taxes now.

Also very pro-AWB. Claimed that's why he chose Biden as he was part of the last AWB and the framework is available to pull from.

Now all the media is asking about the fiscal cliff so the gun convo seems to be over for now.

So basically our assumption (and the talks) of a new AWB will be in effect by the end of January?

He really didn't say for sure but he did say that Biden should have something done by January and that he would push it through as hard as he can. Sounds like the sooner the better for him. No surprise there.

Guess this is one of those instances where living in a small town is a good thing. My LGS had LOTS of ARs on the shelves. Now, if only I could afford to pick up a few more before the world ends on Friday or at the very least, by the end of January.

Just a conference to announce what's coming really. No new policy today, just the announcement for the response comittee.

I like that word better than my 2

He can not institute an AWB with executive orders. Period.

Sheesh folks, lest worry about the real threats, not all this paranoid FUD.

So he's going to put together a comission to write a new AWB (which Feinstien and Pearlmutter already have written so it'll be an opportunity for a bunch of people to sit around doing nothing for a week or two). Then the new AWB will get presented to the House and the Senate for a vote.

Call and write your senators and congress critters ... pester the hell out of them. The chances of an AWB successfully passing the House and Senate as they are currently constituted is slim but we need to keep the pressure on to keep it that way.

I used to think this was funny, now I think it needs to be spread far and wide, to every gun onwer you know.

I am really hoping you are correct on this, it is definitely a very interesting time to be in the gun community and while I didn't own guns for the first ban (I was age 9 when it was implemented and didn't buy my first pistol until 2008), I don't want to be restricted in what I can or can not buy for my hobby.

Frankly, I say we just ban Bushmaster AR15s. It seems like all of the mass shootings have been committed with a BUSHMASTER Brand AR.

i vote we ban cars. each one of these shooters used a car of some sort to perpetrate the crime. they were probably automatics too. 2000 kids a year die in auto accidents. 40,000 adults a year. i think the real enemy is being overlooked.

plus, cars are one of the primary causes of the breakdown of the American Family. Two incomes, two long commutes, no time for the kids. Violent video games and television raise the kids now. no parental interaction. what could go wrong.

Who actually needs a car that goes 120+?
Or even 60+

Ban all of them and make future cars go 10mph or less. think of the lives it will save.

Was listening to Patriot (Sirius 125) yesterday and Ted Nugent came on. He brought up some very valid points including the media's gross negligence when it comes to understanding what an MSR is and what an Assault Rifle is. I think there is a gross misconception that all rifles are fully automatic and just go around shooting at will. He jokingly said hes been conducting an experiment for the last 40 years where a fully loaded rifle is sitting in his living room pointed at someone and it has yet to go off. The host of the show (was a fill in) had mentioned that he asked Ted years ago about banning assault weapons and his response was something to the effect, hundreds of kids die in drownings every year, so lets ban water. You guys bring up cars, same example. How about abortions? (regardless of your stance) 22% of all pregnancies end in abortion, yet Obama supports a woman's right to choose. People are pointing the finger at an inanimate object and not at the person holding the object. What ever happened to personal responsibility? decency? common sense? First we need to get people to understand the value of life, that starts at the dinner table at home.

I feel that the real reason the liberals go after guns is because you can hold a gun in your hands, whereas with mental health issues, they actually have to put some sort of effort in to solve a problem. Then they get the media to skew the real facts and spoon feed it to the sheeple. I'm beginning to think that the term "assault rifle" is no longer a mistake on their part. They know damn well the definition of the term. Personal responsibility you say? Those two curse words went out the door when that woman sued McDonalds because the coffee was hot. Personally, Im sick and damn tired of being hammered as a gun owner because some asshole does something evil with the same type of rifle that I own. Somehow, the sheep think that if you ban a type of firearm, the world will suddenly become oh so much safer! Do they think that all these firearms will suddenly turn to dust and vanish? Ben Franklin was right.

I didn't get to watch.

Anyone sum it up for me without fear mongering?

I gathered they will put together an AWB for congress come the first of the year. That's about all I got?

Any talk about mags? Ammo regulations? Background checks? Other restrictions?

I didn't get to see it either, but from what I've read online, a mag ban isn't even certain. What I've seen is that Obama is open to discussing a high cap mag ban. But that an AWB WILL be proposed.
