5.56 and .223 in the same die set?

In response to this crazy run on ammo, I've decided I better equip myself to be able to reload 5.56 and .223. I bought a set of RCBS small base dies that I guess can be used for both. But if that's true, what really is the difference between the two? Can I just load the 5.56 hotter?

Same thing as far as dies go.

The difference is how far the bullet travels before it hits rifling.
