View Full Version : Hey computer gurus...antivirus advise needed??
So I've boiled my decision down to two brands, Bitdefender and Avast. I'm lookin at the paid versions. Of the two, which would you choose and why. Looking at the Bitdefender Total Security and the Avast Internet Security. I'm not a computer guy and besides a few differences of the two, I don't know which is better. Avast is having a holiday sale 50%off and Bitdefender is about double price since there is no sale. Appreciate your feedback[Beer]

I've been happy for many years with Avast's free virus software. I have put it on about a dozen different computers over the years. Not a one suffering a virus infection.

I've used Avast and Microsoft Security Essentials. I don't see a need to pay for AV software.
AVG free edition.
I run that and spybot.

I really don't either but the spousal unit wants the paid versions for protection with online shopping and other crap. I really don't know computers other than the keyboard and screen are essentials[Coffee]
I like Avast enough to pay for it. Have been for years and am very happy with it. It runs your browsers in a sandbox by default.
...this is coming from a guy that was managing McAfee in a Fortune 250 covering 22,000 PCs.

Avast and AVG are my preferred suggestions.
also use a solid anti-malware as suggested even though some come included in the AV.

My computer "guy" has sworn by and highly recommends using AVG(paid or unpaid, just keep them updated) and another PC guy I worked with says Avast is the best.

On any one day, with any particular lab's test, Avast may or may not be the "best". But its been a reliable trouble free product for me for many years. No scams from the company at all. Never had it goof up a computer as every other one has done at one time or another.

I've used bitdefender in the past--worked great, but i thought it slowed the machine down. but, don't let that influence your decision--it was years ago and they likely have significantly improved the product. no viruses at all with it
tagging this. I need my computer wiped out. just got a portable hard drive and then I can get to work
Looks like I'm going with the Avast Internet Security and since its on sale, 3PCs 1yr for $35 I can't go wrong. Only need the one license though!
