Thanks for the heads up on this. I had been thinking that Wyoming was the closest I would be to an Appleseed shoot.

Has anyone gone to one of these events? Sounds like fun and for a change something is close to Salida.

Yeah
I've been to a couple, my wife does a bunch of stuff on the backend for them. (the webpage, etc)
It's a good program
Volunteer americans teaching other americans the basics of shooting a rifle
You will shoot better afterwards, with clean concise steps to teach others.
there's lots of after action reports on that appleseedinfo.org forum.

I looked at the Canon link and under misc it said two 25 meter ranges. Is the shoot a 25 meter event or is it going to go out further? I wasn't sure if that meant 25 meters was it for yardage or just a side match type of thing.
My birthday is the 20th :D

i believe that appleseed does their events on 25 yd ranges, training you how to shoot a 4 MOA (1" group) that translates to a 4" group at 100 yds. i understand that longer shots require more compensation for drop and windage, but their idea is that the firing line steps are the same regardless of distance - plus more venues throughout the states can support 25 yd ranges vs. 100 or 200+ yd ranges, and that means they can hold more events throughout the nation and create more riflemen.
that sound right to anyone who's more familiar with appleseed?

that's it
except a 25m zero on a .308 is equal to a 225m zero
and a 25m zero on a .223 is about equal to 275m zero.
it's also much faster to run. (you only have to walk 82 feet to have your targets talk to you vs 300 for a 100m). 500 aimed shots in a weekend is a lot.
