Anyone have an opinion on the older Bushys? I'm looking at a decent deal on a Bushmaster A2 complete original carbine. A little wear and tear, it seems to me to be the perfect "truck" gun. Not looking for values, just wondering what you guys think of it in terms of quality of parts and manufacturing.
Mine was good, 1995 I think. Had to replace the extractor springs but that is all.

I have owned several. There used to be the old saw when it came to buying an AR- Stick to your ABC's, Armalite, Bushmaster and Colt. Great rifles, the anodizing should have a purple tinge when wiped down with CLP. For a few years they even had the contract for the Marines and Navy IIRC, their corrosion resistance was better than the old grey Colts.
Bushmaster started out as Quality Parts Company and were a lead contractor to Colt. They decided to build their own under the Bushmaster moniker.
Snag it up Dave, I regret getting rid of every one.....
Make sure its an older one for sure. Make sure its not a newer one mostly because when they joined with DPMS and the Remington which then they all join Freedom Group quality went down in Bushmaster and Bushmaster best armors went to Windom Weaponry so if you can tell its an older one then go for it like the other guy said.

The older ones were top tier back in the day.

I would far rather have a pre-Remington/Cerberus/Ilion Bushmaster than a current one. Doesn't mean the current ones are bad, but I respected the hell out of the product coming out of Windham, Maine.
I've owned 3 - gave one to my father - turned one into a prairie dog snuffer - kept the carbine (mid ban) as it is the most accurate 16" AR I have shot.
You can't go wrong with an early mfg Bushmaster.
