View Full Version : Gun Buyback...
http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/12/19/San-Francisco-And-Oakland-Crowds-Give-Up-Guns-In-Buyback-Scheme?utm_source=BreitbartNews&utm_medium=facebook
In San Francisco and Oakland on Saturday, citizens brought (http://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/Big-Response-to-Bay-Area-Gun-Buyback-183653391.html) their guns to sell to the police in return for cash. Every volunteer who returned a gun was $200 richer walking away. The line was so long in San Francisco that there was no cash left after lunchtime and I.O.U.s were substituted instead.Oakland’s citizens gave even more guns back, including assault weapons and Ak-47s; the line of people returning guns, which was comprised of those standing and those in cars, was almost two miles long. A limit of three per person was imposed.
Oakland’s police chief, Howard Jordan, said, "When we remove guns off our streets that could be used in a crime, we reduce the possibility of our youth and community being a victim.”
There’s only one problem with this scenario: in all likelihood, it’s the law-abiding citizens returning guns. The criminals are not about to surrender theirs. All reports from the scene quote people who were highly unlikely to use their firearms for criminal activity in the first place.

I hate the term "buyback" ... you can't buy something "back" that you never owned in the first place. It just reinforces this stupid notion that EVERYTHING (money, property, guns, our lives) is the property of The State and its only by the benevolence of The State that we get to be stewards of these items, of course at the pleasure of The State and revocable at any whim of The State.

Are tax payers buying their own guns back?

I've got a Marlin .22 that won't reliably feed anything I've bought. I'd happily sell that for $200.

I'm calling bs on this one too. There are not many guns out there that cost $200, and that pile is all shotguns, handguns, and a few bolt guns. There's no damn way anybody buys a gun for $400 - $1000 and then hands it over to the police for $200 because he thinks he's setting a good example. They're stolen or the entire story is bs.
Aside from that, this sounds like it came straight out of Enemies Foreign and Domestic.
I think it would be a good idea to setup a booth right next to the one offering $200 and offer people $300 for their AK's.
I've got a few things I'd like to sell... A pair of fire damaged Ravens, a no-name revolver and a blank pistol that someone reamed out to shoot... Found them at garage sales or flea markets. I'd drive a ways to sell them to the Government...
200 bucks you say
for my ak
no way

What the fuck are they buying BACK? They never sold those to anyone, dealers did.
Who in there right mind is going to sell a gun that's worth say $800 for $200.

I'm also at my wit's end with a recent-manufacture Henry AR-7 that is just craptastic, and 200 would almost cover the ruger 10/22 I'd replace it with.

Gee, $200, grab your ankles!!
Oh, I don't know. We are talking about California, you know the mob mentality, once one person does it then everyone has to do it just to be a part of the group. When I'm at work and several of us start talking guns there is always one or two, that doesn't know their ass from a hole in the ground, that has to join in and start showing their ignorance.

I'm with the whole idea of stolen arms, but if people are actually selling their guns for $200 maybe these people will buy my ocean-view property in Nebraska since no one bit on the 12/21/12 thing... [Coffee]

I'll happily give them $200 for each Glock and AK they can bring me ...I figure after a week of that and the prices on GunBroker I could probably retire.

Well at least we know Atrain1's collection has a monetary value........

My buddy told me that his dad and grandpa would walk up and down the line when they used to do these things and offer people a slightly higher price than what the police were selling. He said they usually had an armful of stuff before the police ran them off, and that it was usually old ladies selling their late husbands' guns that they otherwise would have nothing to do with.
for those stolen guns getting turned back in are the original owners getting them back?

Maybe we should see if any of those morons have been to a man clinic and donated any of their love juice and do a buyback on that so noone else breeds moron people. My AR is worth $1,000,000,000 now. No way I'd turn it in for $200. [facepalm]

Well here are five that might be worth $1,000 if WE ever have the "buy back" @ $200 each. Wouldn't have to worry about some official working the program to be giving them to his brother-in-law to use for an upcoming hunting trip.[blaster]

That's absurd. I don't know how you could call this anything other than a criminal outreach program.
