CCW class prices

I see courses running from $49-$99. I mean they teach you all the things you need to know right? Do you get what you pay for?

Some students I've talked to received less info at a more expensive class and I've sat them thru our class (for free but no certificate) to try to correct misinformation and serious gaps. However, there's no standard for what you receive. Vet your instructors. Most CCW classes are better than any NRA basic class hands down for anyone who's been given the proper basics.

My opinion is that you generally get what you pay for. That is not to say that some very expensive classes are not a rip off, but I have never found one of the cheap classes that I feel is adequate. If you want more dialog about my opinions, I would be happy to discuss with you privately.

You don't always get what you pay for. A recent call asked why i do not have any cost on my card. My reply was " well unfortunately most people shop by price" Once you see a price you are not wanting to pay, or feel it's too much , as the card next to yours list a $30 ccw class, puts you out of the running. The public shops by price, not asking what they get for their dollar. Are there good classes out there absolutely, what do you get for your money? A BASIC class may or may not include live fire, you may not want to pay for a live fire class, or as one potential customer said. " I already know everything about guns, i only want the piece of paper". I never called him back.
Look around, ask the many instructors here what you receive from their class, or other places. You should feel comfortable taking a class, talking to people helps you decide which way to go.

Nobody knows everything and even if you paid them one dollar an hour for 50 hours, you can NOT learn all there is to know in one class. It is a lifelong process. I've been teaching CCW off and on for 20 years and there are always new things to learn. I am honest enough to know that there may be a situation I am not prepared for arise. One of my most valuable learning tools is my students from the last 20 years that keep in touch and relay their learning, experience and maturation as a CCW holder to me.

So, no, a paper generating class won't teach you all you need to know, but neither will an 8 hour class. 10 minutes on the phone to an instructor will tell the savy consumer what they need to know. If all you want is a piece of paper, there are plenty of guys out there willing to trade you $50 for a certificate.
