Thirty One years ago this past week, December 16, 1981, I was taken by my grandparents to see a speaker. She was Mary Sigillo Barraco, a survivor of the Nazi Holocaust. Being 14 at the time I don’t think I really understood all she was saying. She gave me a signed copy of the Constitution, which sits beside me as I write this. She signed it with a message to me, which I’ll keep to myself for personal reasons. I've read this copy over and over again the last thirty one years. It's funny how one person can give something like this and it affects a person their whole life.
Just this morning I went to the book shelf and pull down that copy. I found a video of her speech on the internet and thought I would share it here. We can learn a lot from our past if we only listen.
