View Full Version : Turkey Hunting
I bought my combo fishing small game a few days ago, I also picked up a spring Tom tag. i can't wait to try this Turkey hunting out, it will be my first such hunt. We plan on hunting a little north of Walsenburg near the Heurfano.
Anybody got any stories or pics they would like to share?
Any gear suggestions?
Or just post up pics of your turkey guns.

I was going to use the 28" this year, but I'm seriously considering cutting a dowel to plug the 22" and using it.

You need full cammo a good call and a decoy also helps. I have personally never hunted them but many freinds have and they say if a turkey could hear as good as he sees you would NEVER see one in the wild.
Good luck Will.

I got one a few years ago in Nebraska with my bow. It was an awesome shot. I tried for years after that and never have been that lucky again. Once I shot at a monster Tom with my 12 Ga. and hit him in the body several times and it got away. Remember to aim for the head. It's was the hardest thing for me to do. Good luck William.

i have never hunted turkeys but i can tell you the ones we raise are the stupidest birds ever. we have to go out every night and help them get around a fence or they get stuck. they will stand there and bark and cant figure it out. im not sure how they manage to survive in the wild.
Got two in Nebraksa last year and one in Colorado.
Here are the Nebraska Gobblers.

Muzzle, nice looking birds.
Car-15, nice looking guns.
HunterCO, I've been checking out decoys and reading every bit of litterature I can find. I plan on setting decoys calling and hunting from a blind.
Ya'll wish me luck
I have been using the Pretty Boy decoy and Putting a real Fan in the rear from a Merriam/Rio Hybrid that is shot. Man it works great I have had turkeys come up and kick and peck the decoy then wammo light out. It comes with a hen looking to mate and I also put one hen off the the side about 3-4 yards away. Sometimes I don't have to call much and they come running in.
Heres a pic of my Turkey gun with some friends. I'll probably add a red dot before I hunt.
