Not that I agree that this is a good idea, or that most gun-owners would approve of it, but her suggestion is certainly more achievable than entirely banning the platform to the civilian market. If all "sensible gun laws" that the government is looking to enact look similar to this, I can see how the populous could be fooled into agreeing to them.

I've already paid sales tax for my firearms, I'm not paying an additional $200 in taxes per semi-automatic weapon. If the government wants to be in a better fiscal situation, disband the ATF.

What does this do for state where NFA is banned? The only thing i could see coming out of a transfer from OTC long gun to NFA would be a possible amensty. That would [hopefully] mean no charge for nfa conversion for say 160/days. The only up side would be th $ 1-2K i wouldn't have to shell out for stamps. It would also mean NON-NFA state would have to provide an EXEMPTION for all Long Gun owners. That's one cluster fuck which would tie the courts up for years.

We will have to wait and see what part(s) of Feinstein's suggestions is the NRA willing to accept because, much to its contrary stance on the implementation of any restrictive gun laws, current sentiment dictate that there is a very vocal segment of the population who is clamoring for restrictions on all semi-automatic modern sporting rifles. Under similar circumstances, the NRA was willing to make concessions with the anti-gun community back in 1994. I am willing to bet a penny that they will take a similar stance this time around.

Sure... We can dream but I doubt you or I will ever see this happen. Along those same lines, with the amount of voting drug users that we have in this state (shown by the approval of Amendment 64) we have a better choice of seeing the DEA disbanded first.

Remember the Cobray Street Sweeper rotary magazine shotgun? Legal length barrel, based on the Striker 12 design? It was banned for being "too scary." They can easily change the law to make AR-15s NFA weapons since there is a clear precedent.

grandfathering weapons legally possessed on the date of enactment;
exempting more than 900 specifically-named weapons used for hunting and sporting purposes; and
exempting antique, manually-operated, and permanently disabled weapons.
