Looking for some opinions on Aimpoint Pro, and possibly any current deals anyone may know of. If I could get a decent-quality-for-the-money optic of another brand, that would be fine.

This is for a personal AR, not any duty use involved, so targets, plinking, possible home/personal defense. I have tried to research this, but ther are SO many options and opinions...

Maybe something like: https://www.primaryarms.com/Primary_Arms_MultiReticle_Red_Dot_Sight_PAM3M_p/pam3m.htm for less than 1/3 the money, or something else from Primary Arms?

Thanks in advance, I have faith in the members of this forum.

I have had the Primary Arms M4 clone and loved it! Even the magnifier I used from them was really good quality. After I gather up some funds from Christmas I plan on buying PA micro red dot. You don't see too many used ones for sale and when you do they go fast!

Thanks. I know the PA optics are generally well thought of on the forum. I will check out the M4 clone.

I have both now... Started with PA and upgraded to Aimpoint. People will argue if you trust you life with a knockoff red dot, I honestly don't think the PA will fail. Aimpoints fail as well but their frequency is a lot less.

Aimpoint is proven in the battlefield.

My plinking rifle has either a PA or the Aimpoint original comp M. My other rifles have an Aimpoint H1 and PRO.

Go with aimpoint, insight, eotech, trijicon.. cry once! This' coming from a guy who cut corners for the first few years and ended up w/ a bunch of junk sights.

While PA red dots are fine for range toys (all of my .22lr rifles sport PA micros) they are not meant for life and death situations. They are not made to the same quality or reliability standards as a real Aimpoint. I personally wouldn't cheap out on something that may be used to defend my, or my family's, life. The Aimpoint PRO is by far the best deal if you are looking to buy new. It's basically an M3 with a QD mount for $400. Better deals can be had for used Aimpoints. Keep checking the trading post as they pop up from time to time.

Hate bumping old threads, but I've been Looking at a PA for a while for my plinking gun.

Curious as to which mount would be best for an Absolute Co-Witness on one of this T1 Reps.

well its just one noob's opinion but honestly the PA would be fine. i agree, if you are going into combat and engaging at reasonable ranges sure get an aim point. besides, all the dropping, throwing and over all every day use youll want the aimpoint's reliability. for non-professionals the PA would be fine. even in home defense, for one if you are relying on a red dot for home defense you might have some problems, i mean we are talking about near point blank engagements and constrained spaces. furthermore, its been discussed tons but an ar15 for home defense isn't ideal anyway. but thats besides the point. if you have to shoot someone at 20 feet you likely will hardly even be pulling up sights. its going to be reactionary more than anything.

now the buy once cry once mantra is true. if you really want to use this thing on the range in hardcore training, just get the aimpoint. the PA will actually probably hold up too, they are pretty solidly built pieces, but the aimpoint you won't really have to wonder.

I found the PA optics to be a great alternative for the money. I'd be keeping my MD-06 if I wasn't getting a 1-6x scope instead.

As the OP, I thought I would chime in since this has risen from the dead (twice).

Thanks to everyone's input, I do (did? do?) appreciate it. Since the original post I have had the good fortune to acquire both a PA red dot (used), an Aimpoint PRO (new), AND ...drumroll, please... an as-new-in-box Eotech. It HAS been six and a half months since I started the thread. All have performed well, but I did relegate the PA to an M&P 15-22, for now.

I'd have to go to the site for exact model, but I'm sure its their basic RD. It's not a micro. I can take a pic later.
Haven't had any negative issues with it to date.

I have a PA Micro and a Comp M4. The PA is fine little red dot for less than a $100, you can't complain. Let's face it, 90% of us will never use an Aimpoint to its fullest capabilities. Let your wallet decide.
