Just an FYI went to wally world to use a gift card this moring and they have reinstated there ammo limit again. 2 boxes per person per day. Guy was cool and let me get 3 boxes of 30-30. I know cool story but just thought I would give a heads up.

I notice this christmas eve, I might have been doing some last minute shopping for my wife. The wally world on 10th in Greeley did not have any 45acp, 223 or 22lr when I was in.

Did you advise the Walmart employee that no "assault weapon" shoots 30-30 so he should be begging you to buy all of it otherwise it'll just sit on the shelves? Which Walmart?

I was at a five Wal Mart's today looking for a needle in a haystack (223). Only one had a 2 box limit sign visible (Stapleton). One (Hampden and Sante Fe) sold me four fifty count boxes of 223.

This was at the 287 loveland store the other wally worlds around me are already all sold out. The guy said the fax came in this moring and was going to be company wide.

Christmas Eve for me at the Wal Mart on 136th and I-25. Normally a six box limit but usually depends on who is unlocking the case. Like many, I check the case for .223 and they had five boxes of the Tula steel case which I keep for the Golani. After pulling all five boxes out, another employee came by and mentioned that they had just received a policy change instituting a two box limit.

Another young man was in the process of buying four boxes of shotgun shells and a game license. He made a comment to the clerk that this was Wal Mart's assault weapon ban. The answer he received was that he could only buy two boxes of ammunition as well.

Lesson I took from this experience; private companies may set restrictions on sales as long as they are not violating civil rights laws discriminating against protected groups. Wal Mart sets policies and buyers decide whether they will abide by them or take their business elsewhere.

The experience also had me searching the Internet for updates on Wal Mart and their corporate stance on firearms and ammunition. Like many other retailers, they have experienced a run on merchandise, but I could not find any definitive, large scale changes in Wal Mart policy related to guns and ammo.

I did find this little gem: http://walmartshootings.blogspot.com/

I was aware that Wal Mart is the largest ammunition and gun retailer in the US. Blogs like this one remind me of how difficult it is to sell legal products in this country.

Be safe.

What if you buy the value pack of shotgun shells at wally world? Does the limit apply then?

Good. Now I might be able to finally get some 100 round packs of winchester white box when they come in. I'm 100% sure that one damn employee buys them every time.

No guarantee the policy will stop employees from buying it all up....

I'm sure there will be some, but if they get caught doing that they will get fired. I know because my wife is an assistant mngr and she has seen it happen with other items.

last time the profit seekers went on a fear spree the limit did not apply to shells.

I was told, the limit is so more customers can purchase ammo.

I was at the Walmart in Aurora on Monday afternoon. They were cleaned out of 223 rounds (not a single box), but I bought 12 boxes of 5.56 without issue. They also had plenty of hand gun ammo (no 9mm value packs, but they had 40 cal and 38 special - I "think" they had 45 too; but I am not too sure - I don't have a 45 so I wasn't paying that much attention).

My Wal Mart has no 9mm, no 40, no 45, no 223, no 762, no 22, nothing left but some odd caliber and shotgun left.

I've been to both Longmont Wally Worlds and the one on 128th and Quebec and none of them had any .223 or .308. If you needed 30-30, 7 Rem or 17 HMR, you were in luck though. So glad I asked for a Wal-Mart gift card for Christmas from the in-laws (for ammo of course) LOL

Bower's has some 55gr .223 in for around 50 cents a round, looked like thy had ~4-5k left.

I was told, the limit is so more customers can purchase ammo. This. They held off limits last time until they got complaints that some customers were cleaning the shelves so they are trying to please as many customers as they can. Don't blame Wally World or other vendors for instituting purchase limits on a high demand, low supply product.

I applaud them for doing this as well as on line retailers. To many "profiteers" out there buying up all the stock only to resell it for 3 times the price.

That kinda makes sense. It's a lot better than price gouging.

I've asked a few different guys about the $20 100-box of 9mm that I've only seen once, and have been told they usually get 8-10 boxes at a time and sometimes one guy buys it all. So if this policy means I can find WWB or the cheapo Federal on the shelf occasionally, I'm on board.

Agreed. Under the current circumstances, their policy makes it more likely I can find something there on my way to the range. Well Played!

I think it's lame, they are in the business to sell products, if you have someone standing there with cash in hand waiting to buy something, sell it.

I think it's lame, they are in the business to sell products, if you have someone standing there with cash in hand waiting to buy something, sell it.

In the long term, though, they need happy customers and repeat customers to stay in business. If every time you go, the shelves are bare, you'll start going somewhere else. Then, you won't be in the store to spend your money on all the high-margin stuff. For Wal-Mart, one guy buying ten boxes is not nearly so good as five guys buying two. The five guys will buy more other stuff.

This is a policy that serves both customer service and profitability (in contrast to Dick's, which is a policy which serves neither).

Unrelated: typing this message took me twice as long as it should have, because I kept getting distracted by your avatar.

Cabelas 10 box limit is funny because it means I can only buy 5000 rounds of 7.62x39 (it also applies to their 500 round value packs of herters which is Tula by the way)

Wait, what?! I was just at Wal-mart up here in Evergreen on Sunday and bought 5 boxes of .223 (the last brand they had that was $10/box of 20 [Mad]) and two boxes of 12GA... they didn't have any problem with it.
