View Full Version : Rally(s) At The State Capitol
I've spoken to a few of my close friends in the community and they have suggested that we need to organize some rallies at the state capitol (perhaps on key dates, but whenever). We need to maximize the turnout and get as many gun owners (tactical gun owners, hunters, trap and skeet, soccer moms w/ guns, whomever) to turn out.
My initial thoughts on this are to contact pro-2A organizations like NRA, SAF, GOA, CSSA, RMGO Firearms Coalition of Colorado, etc, and libertarian organizations like the Independence Institute (i.e. Jon Caldera and Dave Kopel). I am personally not qualified to organize this, but I'm sure we can find someone who can.
Also, we need to get local gun stores involved. Places like Jensen's and 5280 would, I'm sure, be more than happy to help. Talk to all your friends that are gun owners, even if they are just hunters with bolt actions. We should have more than enough gun owners in this state to fill the lawn in front of the capitol.
OK, apparently a rally has already been organized by or associated with "Liberty On The Rock", a libertarian social group. The link to the page is on facebook. If you can't see it, i'll post the text here.

Pro-Gun Rally to Take Place on Session’s First Day:
With increasing talks about gun control in Colorado, Guns for Everyone,
a local and somewhat of a newcomer to Colorado’s pro-gun scene, will host
a pro-gun rally at the capitol on opening day of the legislative session.
“Evil is a consequence of freedom, the alternative is slavery,”
said Isaac Chase, local freedom crusader and friend of Guns for Everyone.
“It is a nice theory that we can legislate ourselves into a completely safe world,
but we can’t and that is why it is important we fight for the few freedoms we still have.”
The main focus of the rally is gun freedom, but Guns for Everyone is a strong supporter
of anything freedom, so this is more about freedom than simply guns.
Edgar Antillon, co-founder of Guns for Everyone and former state house candidate, said
this was not just about guns but more importantly about freedom.
“We can debate until we’re blue in the face about gun statistics, but gun ownership is more
about freedom. I’m not comfortable with all that freedom has to offer – marijuana, alcohol, abortion,
but I’d rather be uncomfortable than be a slave to the government.”
Both Chase and Antillon disagree with Gov. Hickenlooper that there needs to be a debate about guns.
“There is nothing to debate, my freedom is not up for discussion,” said Antillon.
The rally is scheduled to take place at the capitol on January 9th at 1 p.m.

That's the problem with being a conservative. I'll be working.

I actually think that rallies would be counterproductive currently. If you did not have outstanding turnout, that would be the theme. And a Libertarian organized one is going to attract enough people with "juicy" soundbites to make us look bad.
Bad idea.
Better idea, flood your reps with letters. That's what we need to organize.

While the concept is sound, I am afraid as others have said the implementation will be counter productive to our position. Beyond the colorful sound bites, if their reaction to a law enforcement presence is anything but cooperative and peaceful, you get the idea.

Yep, I saw that- a Wednesday!? Man, I have to work... I can't just take a Wed afternoon off!
