View Full Version : How to beat the upcoming Assault Weapons Ban in Colorado Legislature

There are three things we (RMGO) need to beat the coming Assault Weapons ban (and other gun controls) in the Colorado legislature.

A solid battleplan -- It can’t be developed on a whim and a prayer, nor by the inexperienced. Having a desire and passion to change things is vital, but experience managing political battles is even more important – especially when we’re talking about losing a civil right.

RMGO has that plan (though we don’t release specifics until we need to, as we don’t want the other side to know that exact plan). So check this box.
Numbers – The only thing that scares politicians into changing how they vote is a large group of people, operating in unity, who will hold them accountable in the next election.
And make no mistake about it: No politician is afraid of one person, acting as a lone wolf, nor are they scared of citizens who “say” they’ll hold them accountable. They’re only afraid of groups who have proven, time and again, that they can organize people, raise money, and – ultimately – win elections. RMGO is the ONLY group in Colorado with that reputation.

You can really help with this item. Every activist can.

Resources – Without the resources to mobilize and enact battle plans, all of the plans are just an exercise.

So, how can you help?

Join RMGO (https://www.rmgo.org/get-involved/join)
If you’re already a member, ask any gun-owning and/or freedom-loving friends and family to join RMGO.
Sign people up (http://www.rmgo.org/about/request-info) on our e-mail subscription list (which is free).
Get ready to act. There’s going to be plenty of opportunity for it in Denver.

Since the Colorado legislature convenes on Jan. 9th, and is constitutionally limited to 120 days (so ends in early May), things happen VERY fast – much faster than Congress. Rarely do we have much notice of anything.

But you can’t oppose a bill that is, as of yet, non-existent. So, RMGO will wait until a bill is filed before we tell people to start contacting their state legislators.

A Caution: BEWARE OF COMPROMISES. There are already people “on our side” who are trying to cut deals with politicians on these gun controls. Stay away from those types. They’ll work behind closed doors, and tell politicians “We’ve worked out this deal for only HALF of the gun control offered. If you vote for it, don’t worry – we’ll protect you.”

This "deal cutting" is how gun control usually passes.

RMGO doesn’t do those deals. It’s underhanded, and destroys our ability to fight gun control both now and in the future.

Well put Dudley! I sent a message (again I know the pitfalls of such a large org like them) to NRA's leadership this morning asking them, no, demanding that they give up zero ground in the coming years. I also cited how their track record on gun control has been less than stellar and that this time they will be held accountable. Hence why I will not ever become a life member of the NRA as they've given concessions in the past, like Mitt Romney said "I like to be able to 'fire' people who don't get the job done."

I used to be a member of RMGO, but have heard that Dudley's a "dud" from some reliable sources. While I agree with his post above and the no-compromises position he expresses, I don't want to just donate money to line someones pockets. What else can you guys, and Dudley yourself, tell me about RMGO's past efforts to protect our rights, and how our money is spent to do so? I'm more interested in the past efforts, than I am any new "plans".

We'll do our very best to defeat these gun controls. NONE are bigger than an outright ban on a whole class of firearms.

It's not just a philosophical point for me. I'm a "black guns" fanatic myself. Build them, tinker with them, shoot them..... and don't want to lose that right.

We don't list membership numbers publicly (normally) but we're over 10,000 now.....and growing fast.

Btw, we're doing a giveaway through Jensen Arms in Loveland for January...

It's a Colt 6920. Yum.

I've never heard of RMGO, do they have a website? Anyone have any info on these folks? I just sent the NRA another $25.00, it would be nice to have local representation.

As another former member of RMGO I'd like to say I'm behind your movement in numbers. However, because of your history, how many times you've cried wolf, the unaddressed budgets and ineffectiveness of RMGO, not to mention the outright lies you've propagated before there won't be any money from me.

Since you've already abused your email list subscribers I also will refrain from signing up there. Please keep us informed here of anything we can do to help our common goal.

I would love it if someone would come right out and say what they have done in the past. I've always considered joining, but always see people eluding to wrong-doing, but I can never find details. So I've ridden the fence for several years waiting to hear the scoop.

I ordered a RMGO hooded sweatshirt and pullover a while back. I only received the sweatshirt. When I e-mailed about it, I was told they were sold out and they'd send one out once they had one. That was 8 months ago...

Not here to bitch about that but just letting you know why I've given the NRA over $100 this month alone and not you folks.

And an answer to "how much money do I need to give Dudley before I can feel safe again?"

Same situation here. I joined RMGO, sent a little more to the NRA, wrote my politicians, posted the link to find politicians on forums in other parts of the country. I do not recall anywhere near this amount of noise before the '94 AWB, the anti's seem to have some real momentum at the moment. IF, we lose some of our gun rights, I'd like to look back and at least be able to say that I did the few things I knew might help. Maybe the money I've sent the NRA/GOA/SAF/RMGO will be for not. Can I really not take that chance right now??

I would love it if someone would come right out and say what they have done in the past. I've always considered joining, but always see people eluding to wrong-doing, but I can never find details. So I've ridden the fence for several years waiting to hear the scoop. As I said in my post, Dudley distorted and exaggerated Jane Norton's record, saying
What do Jane Norton & Sarah Brady have in common? Simple: they both want Gun Owners in jail!
As a gun owner, and someone concerned with our Second Amendment freedoms, we encourage you to cast a vote against Jane Norton for U.S. Senate.
Jane Norton -- like radical anti-gunner Sarah Brady -- is embracing BATFE’s malicious persecution of gun owners, and cannot be trusted with our firearms freedoms in the U.S. Senate. Now, I don't know Greg Golyansky like Dudley does and don't know the facts of his case but equating Norton to Brady was beyond the pale and was one part of giving us Michael Bennet as one of our state senators and one of the votes that enabled Harry Reid to bring Obamacare to a vote. No Bennet, no Obamacare -- in fact, no a LOT of Obama's crap over the past two years. I wrote to RMGO asking to be removed from their mailing list because of this and continued to get Dudley's requests for money until he sent me some BS about the Patriot Act. I told him I didn't appreciate it any more than his slander against Norton so please don't e-mail me again and he replied
Darn. I was so worried about you (whoever you are). As I said, I wish success to him and those of you who support him. I wish he was as polite about the NRA who have had greater success at actually influencing legislation (and yes, sometimes that means settling for the least of evils until you can rally forces to win the end goal). Whichever organization you choose to send your money to is up to you.
