So my vacuum finally kicked the bucket [LOL]

Damn thing started acting up... it started getting louder and louder... and then finally popping the circuit breaker in the fricken house, wtf over?!
My long ass hair and my long haired cat sheds enough hair to make a sweater in week.. which I think is killing these vacuums [hahhah-no]
So I come to you "the wise and all knowing members of the COAR15" for advice on my next purchase on something that sucks up sh*t really well that I would actually throw some hard cash at[Coffee]

So what are you guys (I'm also curious with what vacuums pet owners own...) using to vacuum up your place with that has lasted at least a year?
Help me out here! I've had 2 pieces of sh*t vacuums (From wallyworld) just this year alone.. my price range is up to $200

Go to Consumer Reports Mike and see what their top pick is. It is rarely Dyson. When ours pooped out on us 3 years ago I did and it recommended a Eureka Dirt Devil. Picked one up at WallyMart for about 150.00. It has served very well and I have 4 cats and 2 dogs.
You will find a bag type model actually gets things cleaner than a bagless.

I have a dyson dc33 (i think). Works great, but the animal has the removable brush to make it easier to get the critter hair out. I got it on black Friday for $250.

Just got a Dyson on Black Friday - That thing is amazing. Filled the canister just doing the area rugs on the first floor, that is how bad our old vacuum was (we vacuum the rugs once a week).

Go to a vacuum shop and buy used. I got a bagged Hoover that was AWESOE for $200. just like bert said, it picked up everything. Because of the bag, nothing got out, so you didn't have that vacuum smell. It was very light, but super loud. Life time warranty on the motor. It sucked up a paper clip and wrecked everything that wasn't the motor and was going to cost $200 to fix. I took it back to the vacuum shop and he traded me over to a Dyson at no money out of pocket. Dyson is pretty good but is way heavier and fills up FAST! Also, the lackey at the Vacuum store must have cleaned the Dyson and left the filters wet because it smells moldy.

I did this after going through buying a Chinese $200 bagless at Walmart that started to crap up after one year. You can buy a refurbished one at those independent vacuum places for $20 that will last six months to a year. I'll never pay $200 for a vacuum again unless it is a used $800 Hoover like I had before. Vacuum shop is where it's at!

Did someone here say "Buy Once, Cry once" ?

By the way, IslanderMyk, I don't think Schmidt & Bender makes vacuums...[Coffee]

We have had a 2nd hand Kirby for a WHILE. After 15-20 years I rebuilt the motor and replaced the footswitch. Still was able to get parts.

Shark Rotator. It's a 3 in 1 vacuum and has held its own against the Dyson DC41 animal in numerous comparison tests. They sell it at Bed bath and beyond for 249, you can usually pickup a 20% off coupon in their weekly mailers making it hit your 200 price point.

Did I get your attention? lol [LOL]

Woot.com has factory refurbished Dyson rollervacs about once a week for around $250 (a $450 vacuum normally). I got one last winter and love it! So before you REALLY shell out your hard earned dough, it might be worth it to check Woot.com.

Buy a Shark Vacuum.

Under $200. Comparable to a dyson IMHO.

If you had more cash I'd say buy a Miele. But they're pretty damn pricey.

If you're mechanically inclined, buy a used Kirby. They still offer every part to rebuild one. I bought a Diamond Edition off Craigslist for $80 and basically rebuilt the whole thing for under $175. My wife has a Dyson Animal that can't pick the dirt up like the Kirby. It literally sucks the carpet up into the brushes. The transmission makes up for the heft of this thing while vacuuming. It's a tank.

[Beer]

Earlier in the year, I went through this and I am admittedly an obsessive person when it comes to researching a particular gadget. When my wife and I needed a new vacuum I never thought I would research things over a period of a couple of months, but that's what I ended up doing. Long story short, we tried a few vacuums and the one that was closer to your budget that we really, really liked was this Panasonic:
http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-MC-CG917-OptiFlow-Canister-Twilight/dp/B005JTHQXQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1356763663&sr=8-1&keywords=Panasonic-MC-CG917

Let me tell you I was not about to spend $400 or more on a damn vacuum of all things, so while some high-end vacuums really seemed appealing, I narrowed my focus. The Panasonic is "easy to drive", has a large, high quality dust bag, and really SUCKS. Great selection of onboard tools and has the pet hair attachment that works just fine (we have two dogs). Highly recommend it.
