View Full Version : gun-savvy attorney recommendations?

It has been said that if you defend your life with a firearm, you must be prepared to defend your freedom in a courtroom, or words to that effect. With that in mind, and considering the myriad ways one might inadvertantly run afoul of one of the 20,000 gun laws we are burdened with, it seems to me that it would be prudent (at least) to establish a relationship with a good defense attorney in advance of the need for one. Can any of you recommend a gun-savvy attorney that you've had experience with? I live in unincorporated western Boulder county (great place except for the politics) but I also have a daughter in Parker and a son in Ft. Collins who would be interested in the same info. None of us have any immediate need for legal representation, I just want some "insurance" against future (unlikely, but possible) events.
And while we're at it, is there an authoritative source for a plain language tabulation of CO gun laws? I've been reviewing the Colo Revised Statute database, but that's a convoluted mess of cross-references and (IMHO) incompletely defined regulations in seemingly unrelated sections. The real problem for me is that if something is not specifically prohibited, then I assume it must be legal, BUT there are restrictions on guns related activities or actions scattered all over the law books and I'd hate to miss one. Ignorance of the law is no excuse, but complete knowledge of the law is practically impossible. Catch-22, eh?

Did you happen to look through the "Sticky" on this very subject just above your post?

I really think that this is the least necessary thing for anyone to do.

Thanks, Bailey Guns. When I searched the forum for info on this topic, for some reason the "sticky" didn't appear in the search results, so I didn't see it until after I'd started this thread. That said, the posts in the sticky thread are mostly from 3 years ago and an update might be in order. So, while the mods might want to combine these posts into that thread, I still think it's a good question. I will try and contact the attorneys mentioned in the sticky thread, too.

I can tell you when you run across Brian Wilson's info it's still good. But he's up here in Bailey. He's handled gun issues for a couple of people I know, all successfully resolved.

Great now we have to have another 'accident'.. you mentioned the handshake to a n00b. You cause more accidents than vending machine condoms.
