If it makes some of you guys feel better about having new gun owners get training, all of our Jan/Feb Basic Handgun and CCW classes are sold out. We subsequently added 3 additional classes and they're sold out as well. We're going to put up two more classes...looks like the first couple of months of 2013 are going to be busy.

So it looks like the panic isn't limited to guns/ammo. Certainly we're not the only outfit that's seen a dramatic increase in training. I'm hoping everyone has. It's good to see people VOLUNTARILY seeking out firearms knowledge and training.

The new Hi-Def system is working well, it's popular and it's very realistic.

Here's to more good-guy gun owners for 2013.

Bailey - do you think folks are going to have any problem getting ammo for your classes? How many rounds do students fire in your classes? I have heard of other classes (not basic) that shoot 200-300 rounds/day.

I think Bailey is doing something like FATS training if I remember correctly. I'm not sure he's incorporating live fire into his training. Considering the lack of ammo out there right now, this venue might be very attractive for new shooters.

That's exactly what we are doing in our classes too. Not only is the training efficient but, in addition, we can shoot the equivalent of several hundred rounds of ammunition (without the added expense) and we do so in a "climate controlled" environment. It's a win-win for everyone!

And it is the same type of training given to LE, and it has been used for over twenty years. While nothing is the same as reality, simulator training is as good as it gets next to force on force, simunitions, IMO.

Ask any professional pilot how important simulator training is in developing competency.

Be safe.

Same type of Simulator we use at my agency. Excellent training tool, with shoot don't shoot scenarios, active shooter situations etc. Glad to hear folks finally realize that they don't have to be victims, and training is necessary.

Yeah...we use the LaserShot system. Just upgraded to all High Def scenarios and equipment. I think it's superior in many ways to live fire. Probably less superior than FoF in some respects. It works well for us and gives most noobs a taste of how quickly things can go badly in a lethal force encounter.

I think it's awesome people are getting their training as well as becoming to gun owner enthusiasts! I've been wanting to take my Advanced Pistol Class but haven't been able to get to it yet.

I hadnt thought of a simulator as a training option... That sounds like a blast, and i bet that would instill some confidence for us less experienced. Going to look into that for sure

Are these the simulators that you "shoot" at a large screen with a laser-emitting firearm copy? If so SIGN ME UP!

Yes, this is exactly what they are. The pistols also simulate recoil (done with CO2); this recoil is more noticeable than shooting an Airsoft marker.

We use Glock 19 pistols. Remove the magazine and barrel, insert the laser barrel and the CO2 system into the mag well and you're ready to go. The system uses an infrared laser so you don't see it. Recoil is probably 50% to 60% of a Glock 19 firing standard training ammo.

We may be adding an AR-15 to the laser training program in the very near future.
