When announced the "Cheyenne Mountain Shooting Complex" on Ft Carson, the 90 lane public range was supposed to be completed by the fall of 2012

News sources seem to have no news and no follow up.

Anyone else have any news?

Still under construction.

The berms are done. The firing points are still being worked on.

Have they worked out the details yet? Hours, cost, paperwork, entering post, etc.

Thanks Muddywings. I heard yesterday that it should open before the end of the month, and this seems to confirm that! Looks like this is going to be an excellent, safe, affordable, and enjoyable alternative to Dragonmans.

I hope, it will be nice having a range 5 mins from the house.

The county should invite Hickenlooper for the ribbon cutting

The county should invite Hickenlooper for the ribbon cutting

Why? so he can hold the target?

Would it be required that you register your firearms on post first?

From the article last fall, I recall that the facility was carefully located to avoid that complication (maybe a land-swap deal). In this article, the location is given from I25 and outside Gate 20

Prediction: After living here for more than 30 years, I've noticed that Fort Carson changes commanders more often than I change underwear. There are anti-gun people in the military. At some point an anti-gun commander will be named to FC, and the range will be shut down. And all that money that was sunk into a range for public use will be lost.

So ... you last changed your underwear some time prior to Nov 2011?

Just asking ...

Interesting.

Ft. Polk and Ft. Lewis the ranges were free to soldiers as part of MWR.

But both polk and lewis has ample off-post shooting area's on state land.

It's a co-operative project between El Paso County and Ft Carson, so some Ft Carson commander is not just going to shut it down like that.. it's a joint venture. You don't need to register your guns to go there. You don't have to go on post to use the range. Any more questions I can answer for people who didn't read the article? [LOL]
