That is a little misleading. If a deal is struck, then the vote later is in the week is a formality. Not saying we still might not go over, but it looks 50/50 right now.

so anyone see anything about the debt ceiling? Since the gov't is technically unable to pay its bills as of today without borrowing even more money

its all a joke, a display for their constituents. it was probably never an issue. they want to give their voting base something to cheer for. what this means is we have been up shit creek without a paddle for a long time. nothing is fixed, nothing is better. fuck the politicians on both sides.

Only in DC would actual budget cuts be considered an unthinkable disaster by both sides.

Let it happen, then start searching for more places to cut, this government has a spending problem, this is the first step I've EVER seen that would ACTUALLY address a small portion of the problem. Of course we have to stop it and just enact the taxation portion on the rich! That's what's politically expedient.

... and of course the media will universally portray this as beyond bad AND blame the Republicans for this without even mentioning Obama's intransigence or extreme demands.

They will come to an11th hour settlement, and Obuumer's gun ban will be buried deep in the bowels of the volumous pages. So it slips by all that would oppose it.

I would be willing to pay more in taxes if I thought for one hot second that they would actually spend that money on paying down the debt.

What ? You don't want to pay your fair share ? Just think of all those entitled folks, they won't be able to get their 50" OLED TVs this year if you don't pay your fair share.

No deal today. Here we go with higher taxes!

I think they just doused the Republic in gasoline, and didn't even realize it. They have been out of touch for so long, they don't have the foggiest clue. God help us all.

I don't mind paying my own fair share. I HATE that my share is higher to cover those who refuse to pay their piece of the pie. If you can afford grillz and rimz and any manner of non-essential, then you can lower MY taxes by paying YOUR share.

This entire thing boils down to one thing:
LOL

Lack
Of
Leadership

An effective leader can bring opposing views together to a suitable solution.
We have incompetent leadership.
Its that simple.

I would be willing to pay more in taxes if they would actually spend that money on paying down the debt and stop spending in excess of what comes in. would be my feeling on the matter...

I can think of all sorts of places they could cut spending without affecting the DoD any more than they already have with their so-called "peace dividend". Let's see, there's the DoE that has done so much to curb our dependence on foreign oil (reason it was originally created), OSHA, Administration for Aging, trim the BATFE, what the heck is the Bureau of Indian Affairs even for anymore?, then there's the Bureau of the Public Debt (not kidding)...

oh hell, there are so many Administrations, Bureaus, Commissions, Departments, Groups, and Offices that could be trimmed it boggles the mind.

Just keep in mind, with no deal Obama now has a case to blame any economic misstep on the Republicans. The shit needs trimming but if the economy goes back into the hole there is an election in 2 years, the hole better be shallow.

Any it may not be popular here but the DoD can use some trimming as well.

So how much do my taxes have to go up to get rid of all the worthless fucking career politicians we have? Cause god damn I will pay what ever it takes to get rid of those over paid worthless pieces of dog shit. A fucking raise? Are you fucking kidding me? Those shit bags should be cleaning dumpsters with a god damn tooth brush till the end of time for all the back door ass fucking deals they have pulled. Actually they should all be in jail!

And thats almost word for word what the ol dem bitch said this morning to me! Maybe we can all agree on something?

As Rand Paul mentioned this morning, the tax rate increase is a red herring. It's stupid but it's still just a distraction. Even the top rate just goes from 35% (Reagan-Bush levels) to 39.6% (Clinton levels). However, what Obama is hiding is the fact that Obamacare is now going to tack on a 3.8% tax to capital gains and other taxes and a whole host of other fees and taxes are scheduled to go into effect -- I believe he's hiding behind the fiscal cliff garbage and hoping people will blame ALL the tax increase on Republicans (and that's the line the mainstream media and CNN are taking). Obama has successfully kept the discussion focused on tax rate increases rather than the spending increases in his and Reid's proposals. Yes, it's bad enough they're not cutting the atrocious and mind-numbing levels of spending but they'd doubling down and increasing the rate of spending!
