Anyone seen this yet?

http://www.medicaldevices.org/issues/Health-Care-Reform,-Device-Tax/

Looks like Cabelas is charging it to everyone according to this arfcom thread:
http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1413601_.html&page=1&anc=37516716#i37516716

Here is a pic of his receipt.

Do I need to start charging that as well since it is levied against all companies? There is no way I can get to the end of the year and come up right there on the spot of 2.3% of ALL revenue.

Holy crap! I will be looking out for this on my purchases. This is not the way I understood this new tax. But, what do I know. I hope they charge it on every bottle of Mad Dog 20/20 sold.

Here is hoping for a massive mess up by Cabelas. I just read this: http://www.irs.gov/uac/Medical-Device-Excise-Tax:-Frequently-Asked-Questions and it looks like it is only for medical equipment.

Funny I have a FB friend in TX who just posted a Cabalas receipt as well with the same thing.

Seriously. Just wait until all those that voted for big O start to see all these taxes eating away and their lives.

If we make it to mid terms 2014 it's going to be interesting.

How and why they are collecting this has to be a mystery. Retail has no tax placed upon them. At least last time I checked Cabelas was not manufacturing medical equipment.

I guess I need to check them out since they are raking in the tax that means I can get equipment from them. [hahhah-no]

Need to take a Defib in and ask for repair. [Coffee]

Maybe it's because they sell first aid kits in the camping section. Perhaps that makes them a "medical supply seller" or something. You never know.

Did you ever find out the deal on this?

The arfcom thread and snopes say that it was a computer mistake and if you were charged you can contact Cabelas and get that money refunded.

Yeah I made a $200 purchase at MicroCenter yesterday, and it clearly lists State tax, City tax, and the total. No medical tax.

don't worry though, that 2% just got tacked on to cover SS. you don't even really get to see the money now, it is just taken automatically.
