I've got a short amount of time to work a deal on a pile of 270 140 gr BTSP . I'm thinking on a 6.8 AR. I'll be wearing the search feature out, but if someone wants to give me the cliff notes on barrel twist I would want, mag choices, and brass supplies, I'd be grateful.

Ok I've learned the best mag choices, just not much on availability, same for brass. Still no found info on the preferred twist for 140 gr.

Faster twists will stabilize the heavier bullets. How fast of a twist? I have no clue.
How far are you going to shoot? That also plays in to the equation.

I'm thinking it would be a rare day indeed when I shoot over 400. 200 and under would honestly be more likely.

My 6.8 is a Stag upper with a 1/11 twist and a 20" barrel. Brass is scarce. Remington new brass isn't to bad $$ wise if you can find it. Once fired is a bear to find, and if you do find it don't hesitate. Just buy it. I waited 5 min on one deal and lost out.
Silly questions here.... you are asking .270 questions for a 6.8.... Same round like .223/5.56?
Can I used .270 ammo in the 6.8??? I know, I know. But I could only learn so much in a few weeks before all this AWB buzzzz

No, he's trading or trying to work a deal for 6.8SPC. 270 and 6.8 different animals.

If I find some more in my sorting I will send it your way.

I realize that this thread is a month old but didn't see you getting the information you need. 6.8 and .270 are the same diameter but the 6.8 chamber will probably not work with those bullets, the largest generally used are 130 grain and mostly 85 to 110. The only 140 that I know people are using regularly in a 6.8 are Berger bullets. You want a SPC II chamber with 1/11 or 1/12 twist. More information than you will ever need is available on 68forums. Nice folk, many are in the business but still take time to answer questions. Some of those who developed the SPC II chamber and rifling that allowed higher pressure loads to be used are on that forum and share their knowledge freely. I have a Mini14 6.8 and AR15 6.8. They are great guns and much more flexible in use than the 5.56. You can't hunt deer with a 22 caliber bullet. However, ammunition is expensive and used brass almost impossible to find. I would take all I could get. SSA is the best supplier of 6.8 ammo. Good luck.

Won't .270 bullets work in 6.8 brass? Just watch the overall length..... Also, if you're pushing the bullet too far into the case, watch for signs of over pressure.
