View Full Version : Consider this the next time you eat at Dennys
The Belleville police chief banned his officers from the eatery while on duty after several detectives were told they couldn’t carry their guns in the restaurant. Belleville Capt. Donald Sax said restaurant manager David Rice then approached and told one of the detectives that a diner had complained about seeing one of the detectives carrying a gun.

This problem is going to get worse, not better. Call out those companies, or better yet refuse to do business with them, when they discriminate agains law abiding folks who choose to exercise their Second Amendment rights.

Wonder if it's corporate policy or one idiotic manager setting this policy.
Man, can't remember the last time I've been in a Dennys though.

I miss Sambo's from growing up. Liked them so much better than Denny's.
There's a story from a couple years back on a CHP holder in a Denny's. Here's apparently their policy (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2595388/posts):
WTOC contacted Denny's, who told us their policy is not to allow conspicuous weapons.
And they responded to an email with:
Please understand, as a business proprieter we have an obligation to protect all of our guests, including you. Please understand if you were dining at Denny's with your wife and family were sitting next to somneone with a conspicuous weapon, how safe would you feel? I certainly do not feel as though the manager was discriminating, although she may have been reacting emotionally and it may have felt like she was singling you out.
Really? I'd feel very safe next to someone who looks responsible with their weapon, even if it's open carried.
But it's interesting, they ran that ad from 2 years ago that looked like they supported gun rights.

This was one idiotic manager, and corporate quickly stomped on his toes. It does bring to mind a question, though. Since this happened in Illinois, where the average citizen can't carry a gun in public, should the plain clothes cops be treated any differently? Ideally, I'd like to see private citizens allowed to carry as well, but since the cops in question are not in uniform, why are they privileged to open carry?

Did you really ask this? I would think because they're cops they'd be allowed to open carry... [Coffee]
Yep, I don't want to live on this planet anymore when cops are getting harassed for carrying guns. If LE isn't safe, then you know we're fuk't! [panic]
My point is that if they are in plain clothes, they are not readily identifiable as LE. A common citizen wouldn't have been asked to leave their weapon in the car, they'd have been arrested. If the manager knew they were cops, he/she should have grown a pair and told the customer that they were police officers and not a threat. Either way, the manager is an idiot, as well as the patrons that felt "uncomfortable" HTFU, crybabies...

The problem is, some random "citizen" felt icky when she saw the guns and feelings must be protected. The correct answer from the manager should always be at least "They're police officers, and they carry guns in this country." Now, the best answer would have been "They're legally allowed to carry guns as they're not legally prohibited, and we like it."

As TFOGGER said, it was one idiot manager. Bear in mind Denny's other corporate contributions. They partnered with the Marines Toys for Tots program, raised money for Veterans Village in San Diego, give vets free (on Veterans Day) or discounted meals, etc. Some restaurants support Boy Scouts, not sure if the corporation itself does.
On the other hand, I will tell you Waffle House, Chik-Fil-A and a number of other businesses do a lot to support Boy Scouts in the Pikes Peak region so if you're looking for a place to eat ...

Waffle House is run by anti-gun zealots ... nation wide policy is "No CCW Allowed" (policy doesn't stick well in a state like Colorado where signs carry no legal weight).

That's a bummer.. I did just find this too http://forum.opencarry.org/forums/showthread.php?101414-Waffle-House-Nationwide-No-Carry-Policy-Now-In-Effect
Today, March 30th, 2012 at 9:54 a.m. I received a call from Mr. Jeff Wright with the Waffle House Corporate office. Mr Wright advised me that Waffle House Nationwide has adopted a No Firearms Policy for all locations. In our discussion, Mr. Wright fully agreed with me that this policy will have absolutely no impact on criminals, but he stated that Corporate Officers had made the decision due to actions by armed customers who were not criminals or of criminal intent. Their decision, he stated, was based on legal matters that result from allowing armed customers. I advised him that following local and state laws would serve that purpose, but we agreed "our" discussion did not impact the Corporate decision, and that I should seek change in other ways.
There are way too many other fine eating establishments to patronize. The only one cowering for his life under a restaurant table should be the criminal not a customer or the owner.
