The cops didn't do that, It was some crazy redneck with an assault rifle.
they just wanted a little "fast food"
or a lot of fast food in this case
the real crime is that whoever shot it left the animal on the side of the road....

The DOW does a VERY good job of tracking down poachers. My guess is that even if it leads them to the Boulder SO, the DOW is charging someone.

We all know had he done it, there would have been a post about getting blood off his BMW. Not to mention his PTSD would have kicked in and it would have been more than ONE shot. Besides.. he'd probably giggle like a school boy seeing his first tit if he were to actually get to say 'I'm a cop ma'am don't worry'.

Sad. The cop is now saying the animal was limping and he decided to put it down... but when he knocked on doors prior to the shooting, he told neighbors the animal was dangerous.
I hope this guy is not protected by BPD and/or CDOW. He should be treated the same as any citizen who shot an elk in the middle of Boulder, plus sanctions for being a cop and failing to report the discharge of his firearm, lying to the public, etc. Loss of job and CDOW fine at a minimum. This is a travesty.

I agree 100% with you. The people who lived in the area said he has been in neighborhood for the past 3 years without an issue. I think someone saw a trophy and thought they were above the law and could "justify" taking it
And this is one of the many reasons why I don't trust cops.

I am sure the DOW will file charges. They hate poachers and will keep investigations open for years to find and prosecute them. This time they actually know who done it...
And I am sure this guy will get the hammer dropped on him by his PD for not filing a report.
Sorry, too many thing s wrong with this. If he didn't follow procedure his ass needs to get hammered by CDOW.

No nothing like that- it would be how to get the dent out of my BMW without reporting the accident... [Coffee] Blood? C'mon, even at 16 I knew how to operate the hose at the car wash... Ok, maybe at 18.

I will go grab my shotgun, and say he charged, and then I can justify shooting a Trophy bull within city limits. No one will ever find out....minus this random chick taking pictures. I'll bet he didn't get a chance to fill his tag last year. This was a great opportunity to get the trophy bull of a lifetime. Hell, he didn't even need to leave town. It was a win win situation. lol
They probably thought it was the Grinch's dog loose in the neighborhood. Could have had rabies since it was foaming at the mouth.

You paying attention, Junior Cadet Deputy Ronin?

Actually. I've never been arrested, detained, or had any interaction with police other then speeding tickets. I just feel the need to educate the stupid so that there are less bullshit convictions. Granted, I fully appreciate the police when they're doing a good job and stopping things like rapes, murders, burglaries, etc. I like cops... I have friends that are cops. But I know if you're on the other side of the fence for the moment they are most definitely NOT your friend.

Actually, I thought about it a little more and when I was 19 I got "busted" in a sting for a drunk and disorderly in a downtown denver drinking sting thing. I asked the cop for a breathalyzer they denied me it. I got off. My other friends without representation got fucked with alcohol classes and fines. However, I don't hold anything against any of the cops for any of that because well... It didn't effect me.

Well, no shit. They're not paid to be your friend. Unfortunately, someone isn't always getting raped or robbed or murdered so police officers have other things to do like bust underage drinkers. It's a crime, ya know? But congratulations for possibly breaking the law and "getting off".

See that's that bullshit assumption that someone is guilty before you prove they're guilty... I actually wasn't drinking at that time. I was driving. When I asked for a breathalyzer they assumed I was drunk because I was asking for proof that I was innocent and I wasn't quiet about it.

^Yup.
If he is convicted of poaching (which he almost certainly will be given his failure to report it to the DOW or his PD), the DOW will confiscate the meat and the mount. And he will likely lose his career (and would he lose his pension too?) and get a substantial fine.
Bad judgment and not worth it.

Exactly. The only difference between Joe Citizen and this cop, on this issue, is that the cop hid behind his badge to break the law. That means he should not only get the penalties for the unlawful taking, but should also get the penalties for abuse of his badge.
I can't imagine anyone with a shield will stand up for this guy.

it's a brotherhood, they might not stand up for him, but they won't turn thier back. The bosses have the toughest call on what to do there.

Were you expecting something different? :) I'd prefer some instant reaction too but this the government and one of their people - this also illustrates the VAST differences between Joe Publc and Those Who Would Be Our Masters.
Remember, the cop who shot clo-ee the dog got a felony charge out that. Give them some time and we'll see what happens.

( JEREMY PAPASSO )
A candlelight vigil is set for 5:30 p.m. Sunday on Mountain View Road in memory -- and to celebrate the life -- of the bull elk that was killed late Tuesday night on Mapleton Hill in Boulder.
Many members of the public have been moved by the violent demise of the large elk that was fatally shot by an on-duty Boulder police officer, who has since been placed on paid administrative leave, pending the results of an internal investigation. A second off-duty officer, suspected of assisting in loading the animal's body into a pickup truck and taking it away to be processed for meat, was also placed on leave.
The elk had been spotted for several weeks on Mapleton Hill between 9th and 11th streets, and residents of the area gave conflicting reports as to whether it had behaved aggressively toward humans.
Numerous people living in the neighborhood insisted that it had not, that it appeared to be healthy, and said that they considered it their "guardian."
All are welcome and the event is open to the public.
