This is simply astounding. NOT ONCE IS "GUN CONTROL" OR EVEN THE WORDS "GUN," "ASSAULT WEAPON," "HIGH CAPACITY," ETC., MENTIONED IN THIS ARTICLE!!! They seem to have curtailed crime by fighting crime and getting the gang-bangers off the street. What a concept!!! I'll bet the Illinoise state legislature ignores it completely in their quest to ban EVERYTHING.

"Aurora, IL, Police Chief Greg Thomas acknowledged he’s surprised there were no murders in Aurora last year. He said it’s the culmination of a long team effort, and the results have been dramatic. In 1996, Aurora had 357 shootings and 26 murders; last year, there were only 61 shootings, and no murders. Thomas credited a crackdown on gangs, assisted by federal authorities."

Again, they do NOT care about crime, what causes it, or actually dealing with the problem. They have an agenda to disarm and it's just convenient that they can hide behind children to further their cause. Good for this sheriff to actually attack the root cause instead of the correlated object.

It's beyond me how the Washiton elites can't see beyond their own bias. I'll bet Biden's little band of merry men entirely ignores this option to reduce crime.

I see what you did there, and I approve.

In order to call it a murder, you need to have a body. I wonder how many "missing persons" have been reported ?

Glad they cleared up crime by removing "criminals" from street. Who would have "Thunk" it ?

FYI...Aurora IL is about 50 miles west-ish of Chicago, proper. To get there from Chicago, it is not like driving across town (more like driving from Ft. Collins to Broomfield).
10-ish years ago when riding my bike on a long ride, I had to pass through Aurora, IL. I had rocks and cans thrown at me (once I'd pass someone standing on the side of the street, of course).

Note: Let's not make this a "model" town, just yet...
1) No CCW in IL (although it has been somewhat recently "changed" http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012-12-11/news/chi-us-appeals-court-strikes-down-states-concealedcarry-ban-20121211_1_court-strikes-appeals-court-david-sigale )
2) All Firearms OWNERS need to register and get a Firearms Owners ID (FOID) card, before owning a firearm
3) Illinois has several cities with HIGH CAP mag bans : Aurora (15 rds), Franklin park (16 rds), Chicago (12 rds) , Oak Park (10 rds) and Riverdale (35 rds)
