View Full Version : take me small game hunting!
not right now, but heck, I've purchased a combo small game/hunting license for several years in a row (at least 5 IIRC).. never did much more than fish a few times. (too busy playing 3G/IDPA or Travelling) I'd like to change that this year.
I'd have to check out my scope(s) but I'd be up for some prarrie or tree rats, bunnies, non migaratory birds, heck, what ever falls under a small game license ;)
I just need some heads up in advance.

Maybe in a couple more months when the weather is nicer ARWILL will hook us up again with a P-Dog hunt.
It was a blast I am sure Will is ready to go also. I have several places we can shoot yotes on a weekend.
P-dogs are out of season in CO at the moment, as I'm sure your aware. I do know some killer locations in Eastern Utah tho for when Colorado is off season. We've gotten well over 50 p-dogs in a single location without moving the truck or walking more than 100 feet.
unless you are on private land, you can hunt them year round. I was just out nailing some of them yesterday. below is a copy and paste from the small game book.
Hunting allowed on public land June 15, 2007 - the end of Feb., 2008.
Hunting allowed on private land January 1, 2007 - December 31, 2007.
they have not updated the online brochure so the years are wrong, but the damage control laws have not changed in years, so find a willing rancher (most are when taking dogs and yotes) and [M2] away
Trust me I'm counting down the days until prarrie dog season. I'll keep HunterCO and 7idl informed.
drive east of denver about 30 minutes and start knocking on doors
I did that this past summer and now go p doggin all the time
I even had a guy stop and ask me if I'd come shoot at his place...
open season year round on private land
save your $26 for ammo
I'll help with gas if I can tag along!!!! Or I can drive. I have a Cherokee so I can carry plenty of gear and a few people. I am new in town and am dying to blast some dogs.
eta. I have a bunch of ars an m1a and some other rifles we can use.

Also would like to go hunt small game. Also have 3/4 ton Dodge so feel free to bring all the ammo you want. Seriously though the thing that stops me from hunting the most is not having someone reliable to go with.
My oldest son is getting his hunters safety card next month, but since I limit myself to deer and elk I'm not sure what to do with him. He's not a big kid and isn't yet interested in big game, but he really wants to plug some rodents. Rabbit, prairie dog, what have you...

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA some liberal, tree huggin, dope smokin, obama support'n, pinko fag from the Republik of boulder flagged it.
Boulder is the first place Im going when the SHTF.
the spring hatch is coming if you guys can hold out another 2 months ish you'll have more young and dumb p doggies
you guys might also check out the shirley basin area (BLM land) north of medicine bow wyoming. the guys at wyo fish and game turned us on to that spot
up there all you need is a hunter saftey card to shoot anything smaller than deer all day long
the guy told me we could melt out a couple barrels up there if thats what we wanted to do....and he wasn't lying
my buddy and i were up there all day long with nothing but trigger time, we barely took a break for a cookie and one beer all day long that how infested the area is
3.5 hours from denver and very worth the drive

Gotta love those hippie fags. I guess they would rather see horses lay out in thier pastures with compound fractures for hours until somebody finds them because they stepped in a pdog hole. I read somewhere else about a place in wyoming (I think it is some state park) where the p-dogs are protected and the buffaloe in that area are costantly being injured stepping in holes. The little bastards are cute but watching thier guts spin through the air sounds like way more fun than taking pictures of them.

I've been to a few good places out by Roggen but don't actually have any contacts out there.
I've just got my little .17 HMR but would love to kill a few with you guys. I'd be more than willing to pitch in with whatever would be needed.
So we have a good group wanting to go, now someone just needs to name a date and a place to meet, and where we're going. Problem solved [Poke]

How many people would be too many? It seems like any more than five or six and you will only be losing shooting time. And I doubt any land owner wants 15 guys shooting on thier property. Maybe we can find a large public area and spread out.

Pick the date and the spot, and see how many actually can go. Chances of more than a handful actually going on any given day is probably slim. For instance unless it's a Friday or Saturday, i won't be able to make it.

Good point. I can only go on the weekends also. I am waiting on some student loans that should be here any day so I can get my jeep fixed. After I get the truck fixed I will see if I can get the ball rolling on this p-dog trip so we can stop yapping about it and go have some fun.

this is exactly the problem/reason many land owners including my friends and family dont let hardly anyone out on our propertys, I have witnessed it several times myself, and have talked to others in the area about it, you let one or two guys on, and by the end of the month I have to scold him and 15 of his friends as they suppress all the wildlife in the area. and change the lock on the gate, because 25 people have the combo. and or a copy of the key to the gate. we have had to buy 3 locks in the last year alone. so we just say no anymore, because a few bad apples have ruined it for everyone.
Dont know if this is legal or not, but what about going out to the open fields east of the metro area? Like out past DIA, or past the Aurora Reservoir...nothing out there but open land for miles...

i was out there a few months back( about 4 miles east of E470 ), got access to some private land, had a blast with the landowner and now he wont call me back. Really i dont understand it, everything went smooth as silk, everyone had a great time, picked up brass and no one was muzzle waved etc and poof now no calls back. SAD!
its ALL fenced out east on quincy and they are EVERYWHERE out there but its all barren land and no landowners in sight.
Screw it, this weekend or next I'm going to Limon!

If you go next weekend i got some gas money, take me with [Beer]
I'm in , got a 5th wheel sleeps 5 -6 easy. Douglas WY here we come. Springtime[M2][M2][M2][ROFL3][PizzaHut][Jail] I got some yotes place to,Just suck calling them in.
personally I don't like shooting with more than one good buddy.
you get 3 or 4 or 5 guys out there with loaded rifles and and no real "plan" or rules of engagement and you're going to have safety problems.
there is always going to be that one guy that wants to go see his kill after every shot, then there's going to be the AR guy with lots of ammo spraying all over the place then there's going to be the stingy reloader type making every shot count etc...can you say culture clash
just be careful what you guys ask for
I've got 2 farms I shoot p dogs on
and I've taken friends out there one at a time always in one vehicle
there's no way I would jeopardize my relationship with the land owner by showing up with multiple trucks and tons of dudes and raising holy hell
then I lose a prime place to shoot
at thanksgiving I brought the family a bottle of wine to say thanks
now everytime I show up they tell me to go have fun
you gotta be cool
introduce yourself as a sportsman
work a relationship
protect it
you are there to help the landowner
but he is really giving you a lot by allowing you to let lead fly on his property
watch the neighbors place and livestock
watch the land owners house and livestock
be careful of the road
I've had cows walk right into our firing line an blow tons of p doggin time
there are all kinds of issues with shooting on farm land
chose an appropriate caliber for the size of the shooting area
etc...
